The Lyre of Delight (Portuguese: A Lira do Delírio) is a 1978 Brazilian drama film directed by Walter Lima, Jr. The film was selected as the Brazilian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 51st Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.

Luzia, une jeune fille de 19 ans en provenance du Nordeste, région où l'exode rural est important, arrive à Rio de Janeiro à la recherche de son petit ami Jasão. The film follows the story of the friendship among three young friends in a metropolis. Luca is a tattoo artist who lives with his grandmother. He keeps a tattoo studio in the back of the house, in a peripheral district of São Paulo. Luiz lives in a pension in the downtown city, he spends the day between small jobs that he manages with his bike and working in a drugstore. Luara, his girlfriend, is a girl who lives in an apartment in front of the airport and works in an ornamental fish shop, while dreaming of traveling abroad. The life of these three friends are marked by an ordinary routine, in which the lack of perspective prevails.

Peter Mandrake (Coyote), an American photographer in Brazil, is preparing an in loco essay for his new book, about the "Train Surfers" (groups of boys who court danger "surfing" on the roof of the trains) in the city of Rio de Janeiro. A local call girl he is friends with is murdered, and when the police can make no progress Mandrake decides to investigate himself. Subsequently, two hired thugs break into his apartment demanding a disk, and, when he doesn't produce it because he can't do so, they rape his girlfriend and stab him, leaving him to die. Vowing revenge, Mandrake enlists the help of Hermes (Karyo), a professional knife fighter who owes Mandrake a debt, to teach him the art of knife fighting. The obsession this develops into causes Mandrake's girlfriend to leave him, wanting the whole thing to simply go away, but Mandrake refuses to let go.
