Synopsis
Simon Tam (Andy Lau) is a righteous private detective who is working for free for 3 years and 8 months due to his superstitious mentor. Simon has worked for 3 years 7 months and 28 days for free by now. On the second to last day, his assistant Joe (Simon Lui) accepts a case involving missing money for HK$1,000,000 advance down payment. The next day, the client mysteriously died and Simon decides to find the money for the client's wife, Yvonne (Rosamund Kwan). The money turns out to be HK$10,000,000,000 of triad money and both Simon and the triads chase after the money.Actors

Wayne Cheung (Kenny Ho) is a rich heir who impulsively committed a crime because he was unable to accept the fact that his mother remarried. After being sentenced to prison, he is bullied by his inmates but is helped by his roommate Henry (Andy Lau), whom he befriends. After release, Wayne goes to study law in Britain while Henry joins the triads due to his family environment. Two years later, Cheung returns and becomes a lawyer while Henry also becomes a gang leader. Due to his conflict with another triad leader Charlie Ma (William Ho), Henry's pregnant wife Winnie (Gigi Lai) is raped and killed. Henry later takes revenge on Ma, and although successful, he is imprisoned again and Wayne becomes his defensive lawyer.

Sas and Chow Cho-sam are sworn brothers who grew up in a triad gang and lacked family warmth and proper education. Sam falls in love with May and they have shotgun marriage. In order to pay for their marriage, Sas gets involved in a robbery where Sam injures three policemen and the two are imprisoned for six years. After they were released, May is already someone's fiance but Sam is still in love with her but since punks and love have no fate, they can only be friends. Sas and Sam borrow money from a loan shark for their private business. However, their business fails and debt collector Fu forces them to kidnap to pay off their debts. They are ordered to kidnap tutoring student Ka-po, daughter of a wealthy man. Sas was dissatisfied with Fu's decision to murder the girl after collecting ransom and personally hands Ka-po back to May which angers Fu and he hires people to chop Sas. After Sas dies from his injuries, the sadden and angered Sam seeks vengeance on Fu. After some fighting when Sam was about to kill Fu, his long lost father, Inspector Chow Wing, persuades him to reform and not to repeat the same mistakes. Wing hands Fu to the law and helps Sam turn over a new leaf.

Alan Lung is the adopted son of Taiwanese triad leader Lung Yat-fu. Alan is highly favored by Lung, who appoints him as his successor over his two biological sons Simon and Bowie. One time when Lung was shot, Alan blames Bowie, who then becomes a police informant attempting to kill Alan. Alan survives so Lung tells his second son Simon to kill Bowie while Simon also hires an assassin, Leon, to kill Alan. Alan then escapes from Taiwan to Hong Kong where he meets triad leader Andy, his girlfriend Loletta and his sister Carrie. Taiwan's uprising gang leader Lee Yan-chak uses violence to wipe out Taiwan's competing forces and won Asia's largest arms smuggling market. Because the smuggling group is powerfully armed, the military decided to set up a special group, where the leader chooses fighting pilots Chow Chun-kit and Lau Ka-lun to be trained by Colonel Ng. Kit was sent undercover to investigate on Lee's evidence of crime. Subsequently, Lee's men notices Kit. Lee also notices Kit's hale personality and takes him under his wing. In a choice of his task and his personal relationship, Kit chose task as the main importance and assisted the Special Force in infiltrating the arms base, while Lee plays dead and escapes from the law.

When retired police detective Fan Chi-hung (Alex Man) hears that his former superior Brown's (Roger Ball) son has been kidnapped, he comes back to Hong Kong from the United States to assist in the rescue. Along with Brown's adopted son, Kit (Andy Lau), they go through several investigations and finally rescues the child, which Brown is grateful about. Fan also takes the opportunity to see his ex-lover, Shirley (Kelly Yiu). Kit also knows Shirley and gradually falls for her daughter, Cindy (Regina Kent). However, thing suddenly change. It is revealed that Brown actually engulfed a huge sum of money from a Japanese company, which leads Yakuza member Hoshida (Michael Chan) to Hong Kong to find out the truth. Hoshida, who was originally named Pu, was Shirley's ex-husband when the former was a triad member in Hong Kong. When Browns learns about this relationship, he tells Fan to depart from Hong Kong and let him negotiate in Japan. Unexpectedly, Brown betrays Fan, and the Yakuza tries to kill Kit and Fan and later kills Kit and Cindy. Fan also unintentionally learns of Hoshida and Shirley's relationship and Fan decides to battle to death with the Yakuza.

Ace marksmen Lee Kin-wah (Andy Lau) manages to prevent a potential slaughter due to his exceptional sharp-shooting skills. Though his immediate superior is angry at the cavalier attitude Wah displayed during the operation, the powers-that-be decide to promote the young police officer to their special arms unit, B.O.B. Along with his cheeky best friend Wai (Michael Miu), Wah joins the newly formed special unit that is trained to deal with expected terrorist attacks. Although he was the best in his former unit, Wah finds that there are a few rivals keen to undermine his glowing reputation. He also finds his arrogance attracting attention from the specially employed tactical researcher Jennifer Tang (Rosamund Kwan) whose knowledge of the enemy is constantly undermined by the self-centered Wah. Such petty rivalries are put to one side when I.B.S, an international terrorist collective, plan to attack a controversial politician. The special police unit go into action against the threat, but there are tragic casualties.

In Cambodia 1975, the eight-year-old Wai Lok-yan witnessed the tragedy of his parents being killed by Ray Lui (Paul Chun) while hiding in the closet with his younger sister. Back then, Yan's father Wah (Phillip Ko), Ray and Seung (David Chiang) were war comrades working for the CIA in Cambodia. The hero Ching-yan has been dreaming of a beautiful woman every night for 28 years and he vows to find his dream girl. He travels to the Snowy Mountain in search of her together with his godson and a mad doctor. Business in the Last-Stop-in-Life Hotel at the base of the mountain has been good, as many people have ventured to the mountain in search of the legendary Ice Maiden, but none have returned. The innkeeper develops a crush on Ching-Yan and pretends to be the Ice Maiden to entice him, but Ching-Yan does not believe her and insists on going up the mountain to look for the real Ice Maiden. On the way, he angers the Devil King and is rescued by the Ice Maiden. In doing so, the Ice Maiden ages 200 years overnight, but Ching-Yan still wants to marry her even though the Devil King does not allow them to leave. Eventually, the innkeeper sacrifices herself for Ching-Yan, allowing Ching-Yan to engage the Devil King in one final battle. Ching-Yan emerges victorious and is finally together with his dream lover.
