Ringo Lam (林嶺東 en chinois, Lín Lǐngdōng en hànyǔ pīnyīn, Lam Ling-tung en cantonais) (8 décembre 1955 - 29 décembre 2018), est un réalisateur, producteur et scénariste hongkongais. Il est célèbre pour sa série de films On Fire et en particulier City on Fire.
De retour à Hong Kong en 1983, il commence à réaliser plusieurs comédies. Le succès commercial de Mad Mission 4 lui permet de produire son propre scénario, City on Fire, qui sort en 1987. Ce film lui vaut son premier Hong Kong Film Award et est cité à de nombreuses reprises par Quentin Tarantino comme inspiration de son premier film, Reservoir Dogs. Certaines critiques ont fait remarquer qu'il y avait des scènes d'action qui avaient été reproduites à l'identique.
Ringo Lam enchaîne après City on Fire d'autres films similaires (Prison on Fire, School on Fire) qui ont en commun une vision sombre de la société hongkongaise et de ses institutions. L'acteur Chow Yun-fat apparaît dans beaucoup d'entre eux. En 1993, il tourne Full Contact avec Chow Yun-fat, Simon Yam et Anthony Wong, qui reste dans l'histoire du cinéma de Hong Kong comme un sommet du polar excessif et violent.
En 1993, il réalise son premier film en costume avec Le Temple du lotus rouge qui raconte l'histoire du héros mythique chinois Fong Sai-yuk combattant les membres d'une secte.
Il réalise ensuite deux films majeurs avec Lau Ching-wan : un polar, Full Alert, et un thriller, The Victim.
En 1996, il fait ses débuts à Hollywood avec Risque maximum avec Jean-Claude Van Damme. Il poursuit sa carrière à Hong Kong tout en réalisant deux autres films avec Van Damme (Replicant en 2001 et In Hell en 2003).
En 2007, il participe au film Triangle avec les réalisateurs hongkongais Tsui Hark et Johnnie To et réalise la deuxième partie.
Il meurt le 29 décembre 2018.

In 1965, a couple (Sylvia Chang and James Wong) are doting on their newborn twin boys. Meanwhile, a dangerous gang leader named Crazy Kung (Kirk Wong) is being transported as a captive in the same hospital. Crazy Kung escapes and attempts to take one of the twins hostage. In the ensuing chaos, the twins are permanently separated. One of them, named Ma Yau, is raised by his parents and grows up to be a concert pianist and conductor. The other, named Wan Ma, is raised by a woman named Tsui (Mabel Cheung), and grows up to be a street racer and martial artist. Neither of them has ever thought that he has a twin brother.

Police officer Pitt's (Wan Yeung-ming) partner Lau was killed by the triads. The case also involves the seizure of a number of pornographic photos of politicians from an earlier investigation. The murder was witnessed by chef Fat Goose (Sammo Hung), and Pitt forces him to be the eyewitness and have the killer arrested. The killer, Lam Man-fu (Tommy Wong), however, was bailed out by his lawyer Kam Tse-ping (Lam Chung) and Pitt's superior Keung (Lau Kong) also forbids him from interfering with this case. At this time, Fat Goose's house was also torched and was determined to cooperate with Pitt to tackle the triads.

Kyle LeBlanc (Van Damme) is an American working overseas in Russia. When he hears his wife being attacked over the phone, Kyle rushes home to find that he is too late. The man who has killed his wife is found not guilty on lack of evidence (but in fact because the defense bought the judge). Kyle, therefore, takes the law into his own hands and kills the man to avenge his wife's death, and for this he is sentenced to life in prison without parole. Ma (Lau Ching-wan) is kidnapped in a parking structure. His girlfriend Amy Fu (Amy Kwok) informs the police that though he had been jobless for a while and had a lot of debt, he was not a bad man. Twelve years ago, Don (Louis Koo) was imprisoned due to murder and the fact he did not testify against the mastermind Dante (Simon Yam) and his friend Max (Julian Cheung), who was also involved of committing the crime. Twelve years later, Don is released from prison and decides not to repeat the same mistakes and make a fresh start. However, Don receives a sudden call from Dante and Max, whom force him to assassinate the candidate running for the president of the Philippines. Mak Kwan (Francis Ng) is an expert in bombs. After killing off his partner, he is arrested by police officer Pao (Lau Ching-wan). His girlfriend, Chung Lai-hung (Amanda Lee) informs the head of the gang that Mak is being held by the police. Since mafia leader fears that Mak will reveal their plans, and promises to rescue Mak with his underling and Chan Wah (Raymond Cho). Knowing the leader's plan, Pao prepares for the battle. Although the mafia leader cannot get to Kwan, they manage to kill Pao's subordinate Yung. Pao and his subordinate Bill are upset over Yung's death and swear to get revenge. Chan Wah is also killed by the gang leader to frame Pao. Meanwhile, Kwan escapes from prison with the assistance of a fellow prisoner. As he grows to understand Kwan's personality, Pao waits for Mak at the Jockey Club. Kwan reacts by tying up Pao's family. When he sneaks into the Jockey Club and takes the money, the head gang leader then wants to kill him so that he can take the whole portion of the money for himself. This leads to Mak killing the leader. Mak takes the money with Lai-hung but is followed by Pao. As they battle each other, Pao shoots Lai-hung. Kwan cannot handle her death and shoots himself.

In Cambodia 1975, the eight-year-old Wai Lok-yan witnessed the tragedy of his parents being killed by Ray Lui (Paul Chun) while hiding in the closet with his younger sister. Back then, Yan's father Wah (Phillip Ko), Ray and Seung (David Chiang) were war comrades working for the CIA in Cambodia. Later Ray gone rogue and works for the Khmer Rouge and in order to take the information gathered by Wah, he killed Yan's parents, while Yan's younger sister also dies in a fire. After this incident, Seung takes the orphaned Yan to Thailand, where he became a Thai Air Force Pilot.
