Synopsis
Lulu Massa is a reliable and dedicated factory worker but then he loses a finger due to a work accident. He lets himself get agitated by communistic students and becomes an agitator himself. His employer fires him for supporting those students but they refuse to acknowledge responsibility. The trade union, although having resented his previous aggressivity, achieves to get him back into his old job. At night Lulu has a dream where he breaks through a wall and there's nothing behind it.Actors

A recently promoted police inspector (Gian Maria Volonté) kills his mistress (Florinda Bolkan), and then covers up his involvement in the crime. He insinuates himself into the investigation, planting clues to steer his subordinate officers toward a series of other suspects, including the woman's gay husband and a student radical. He then exonerates the other suspects and leads the investigators toward him, in order to prove that he is "above suspicion" and can get away with anything, even while being investigated. In the end, he confesses to the crime in front of his superiors - who refuse to believe him. Sure that he is safe, he recants his confession, and receives the approval of the police commissioner.

Un ouvrier plombier quinquagénaire, veuf et père, assiste dans un autobus au décès d'un homme. In the near future, big wars are avoided by giving individuals with violent tendencies a chance to kill in the Big Hunt. Après deux années passées sur le continent, Salvatore retourne dans sa Sicile natale. Alors qu'il rêve d'être accueilli en fils prodigue, il constate que les habitants de son village l'attendent, plutôt impatiemment, afin d'y dénouer un conflit d'ordre social. La question cruciale est celle-ci : faut-il occuper les domaines que la récente loi a expropriés et partagés et que la Mafia empêche qu'on leur distribue ? Les paysans entament une action pacifique, mais Salvatore veut aller plus loin : en labourant et semant, ils doivent provoquer une situation irréversible. Les paysans se mettent au travail, mais la Mafia les attaque à l'aube. Les carabiniers interviennent alors pour empêcher les combats. Ne s'avouant pas vaincue, la Mafia entreprend de contrôler l'affermage des carrières du voisinage. Simultanément, elle cherche à gagner à sa cause Salvatore, en l'achetant si nécessaire. Bien qu'il feigne d'accepter la négociation, Salvatore engage une campagne pour améliorer les conditions de travail dans les carrières. Un matin, Salvatore s'en prend violemment au chef local de la Mafia : celle-ci le liquide physiquement, une heure après. Le village entier, lui rendant hommage, assiste à ses funérailles.

The film begins with Tunin (Giancarlo Giannini) learning that his friend, an anarchist who was plotting to kill Benito Mussolini, has been killed by Mussolini's fascist police in the countryside. Tunin decides to take up the cause his friend died for. The movie then shows Tunin entering a brothel in Rome and meeting Salomè (Mariangela Melato). The two have a casual sexual encounter. Salomè explains her reasons for helping in the assassination plot as her former lover was wrongfully beaten to death by Mussolini's police in Milan. The story continues as Salomè arranges for her, Tunin and Tripolina (Lina Polito), another prostitute at the brothel, to spend the day with Spatoletti, the head of Mussolini's police. The four of them go to the countryside near Rome where the assassination will take place in several days time. Salomè keeps Spatoletti busy while Tunin scouts out the area and makes a plan. Tunin takes an interest, however, in Tripolina and they fall in love. Tunin convinces Tripolina to spend the next two days with him before the assassination as he fears they may be his last. On the morning of the assassination, Tripolina is supposed to wake Tunin early. She loves him and is scared he will die so she decides she will not wake him. Tripolina and Salomè argue about this and what to do but in the end they decide to let him sleep. Tunin wakes up and is furious at both of them. He goes into a tirade that draws the attention of the police. He starts a shootout with them and screams that he wants to kill Mussolini. He is captured and beaten to death by the police. The film ends the way it began showing the full title of the film "Stamattina alle 10, in via dei Fiori, nella nota casa di tolleranza..." This morning at 10, on Via dei Fiori (Flowers Street), in a noted brothel which is the headline of an unnamed newspaper. The article, displaying fascist censorship, goes on to say that Tunin (who is unnamed) was arrested and then committed suicide.
