Toto, Peppino and the Fanatics (Italian: Totò, Peppino e le fanatiche) is a 1958 Italian comedy film directed by Mario Mattoli and starring Totò.

Synopsis

The poor Antonio Vignanelli and Peppino Caprioli are exacerbated by hobby and foibles of their respective families, the two that cause many problems. The two are taken for fools and taken to the asylum, and in fact the director of the asylum (Aroldo Tieri) tells how the various misunderstandings that led to their hospitalization are due in reality the foibles of their families.

In 1961, Antonio La Puzza emigrated from Acerra for lack of money in Berlin then divided between Western and Soviet searching for Giuseppe "Peppino" Pagliuca (a Neapolitan "magliaro" who emigrated to Germany years earlier). There he meets two guys, including the daughter of Admiral Attila Canarinis (former Nazi military very much like La Puzza) that, instead of helping the recruit to the tune of 20 million lire: the poor accept Antonio La Puzza and pretends the Admiral, and in the court of the U.S. base to be found innocent, even if not immediately believed, so the Americans release spiandolo in his every move.

Province of Rome, the early postwar years. Antonio, an unemployed middle-aged, married a rich woman, Teresa, who bullies: he lives in the countryside with his wife and daughter Valeria with the earnest and always without a penny in his pocket. The money is squandered in carousing by Toto and Peppino, who went to Rome, where they are joined by Valeria and Alberto, who discovered the deception, even Teresa discovers the ruse of her husband, when the television is transmitted to a shooting in a nightclub, where the two buddies damage to the mad joy. Gone are the money, Toto returns to town and tells his wife to have escaped the bandits, Valeria did not have time to warn him so that man is exposed. The day after Toto is really captured by the men of Ignatius, who also knew of the fake kidnapping done in his name, he calls for a high ransom, Teresa, however, think that this is another fake kidnapping and does not give a money. Valeria and Alberto, now engaged, hatched a plan to rescue Toto, going by Ignatius in his den and calling for freedom of Toto in exchange for an interview that will make the famous bandit. Ignatius accepts and Toto back home. After the wedding of Valeria and Alberto, Teresa's husband out of the house, warning him not to come back until you have made a stand. Toto, who has never worked, is reduced to make the "boy" in the workshop of Peppino.
