Province of Rome, the early postwar years. Antonio, an unemployed middle-aged, married a rich woman, Teresa, who bullies: he lives in the countryside with his wife and daughter Valeria with the earnest and always without a penny in his pocket. Valeria makes the acquaintance of Albert, a young journalist, came to the country with the purpose of approaching and interviewing the bandit Ignatius said, "The Press", feared throughout the region for its daring enterprises.
