Usha Parinayam (Telugu: ఉషా పరిణయము; English: Marriage of Usha) is one the famous Indian dramas and films produced in different languages. It is also a popular Yakshagana. The play was written in 1901 by Vedam Venkataraya Sastry.
Synopsis
Banasura, the king of demons undertakes severe penance to solicit the blessings of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva appears to Banasura and asks him to reveal his desire. Banasura asks for Shiva, Parvati and their entire family to guard the entrance to his city Sonapuri. Shiva goes to Sonapuri with his entire family including the Pramadhaganas to guard the city. This provides the arrogant Banasura with over confidence and he wages war against the devas. The devas are no match for the mighty Banasura who is under the protection of Shiva and are defeated in the ensuing battle. He further challenges Shiva, the very power under whose allegiance he defeated the devas. Angered with Banasura’s arrogance, Shiva curses him that when the flag of your chariot falls without a reason, Sri Krishna will fight you and humble your pride.Actors

The story of the film is from the Hindu epic Ramayana. According to the father's wish Rama with Sita and Lakshmana goes to the forest. Bharata in stead of becoming the crown king, as his mother's wish, goes to the forest and requests Rama to return to Ayodhya. Refusing to disobey the orders of their father, he gives away his Padukas to Bharata. Taking them back to Ayodhya, he crowns them and rules the kingdom for 14 years.

Sundharam Mudhaliyar M. G. Chakrapani is a wealthy man living with his daughter Kaveri (Rajasulochana) and Sahadevan lives with his wife Thanabakkiam (P. Kannamba) and daughter Sundhari (Jamuna). During a dance competition at the school function, Sundhari wins the first prize and Sundharam could not accept this as Sahadevan's family belongs to an inferior caste and indebted money from him. Sundharam magnifies this simple misunderstandings which results the death of Sahadevan. In order to cover this up, Sundharam disposes the body into the river and cooks up a story that Sahadevan had run away to avoid paying his debts. Sahadevan survives but suffers from amnesia. Sundharam grabs over Sahadevan's house and land as a compensation for his debts and Thanabakkiam and Sundhari had to leave to a smaller house in another village. There Thanabakkiam saves the life of Kanagasundharam or Kanagu (M. G. Ramachandran) from drowning in the river and thanked by Kanagu's father Loganayagam (D. Balasubramaniam) of the assistance rendered despite the difference in their caste. Kanagu and Sundhari becomes close friends and grow up to be lovers.

Bheemasena Rao (SV Rangarao) is a dignified and respectful man. His son (R. Nageswara Rao) works in Military services. His daughter is Rukmini (Jamuna). Rakshas King Ravana decides to invade Amaravathi, the capital of the heavenly kingdom of Indra. Scared of Ravana's plans, Indra asks Narada for help. Narada informs Indra that Ravana's strength comes from the worship performed by Kaikasi, Ravana's mother. He then suggests that Indra sabotage Ravana's mother's worship of saikatha lingam, a sand sculpture representation of Lord Siva. Ravana decides to perform penance and bring Lord Siva's Atma Lingam for his mother to worship. Hearing of Ravana's plans from Narada, Goddess Parvathi, Lord Siva's consort, appeals to Lord Vishnu. When Lord Siva appears to Ravana to grant his wish, Lord Vishnu manipulates Ravana's mind and makes him wish for Goddess Parvathi. As Ravana proceeds home with Goddess Parvathi, Narada meets him midway and tells him that his companion is fake Parvathi. Dejected by the subterfuge, Ravana returns Goddess Parvathi to Lord Siva. During his return journey, he meets Mandodari, the young princess of Pathala, and believing her to be the real Goddess Parvathi, marries her. Eventually, he realizes what happened and appeals to Lord Siva for forgiveness by presenting his severed head. Lord Siva presents Ravana with Atma Lingam and warns him that, if the Atma Lingam ever touches the earth, it can never be moved again. Narada instigates Lord Vinayaka to trick Ravana into grounding the Atma Lingam at what later became known as Gokarna Kshethram in Karnataka.
