Pentapadu Pushpavalli, better known as Pushpavalli, was a Telugu and Tamil film actress. She was the second romantic interest of Gemini Ganesan. She had two daughters with him, of which the eldest was Rekha. She starred in many films with Ganesan, mostly as his heroine. Her film work includes title roles in Miss Malini (1947), an adaptation of R.K. Narayan's novel Mr. Sampath, and the Telugu film Satyabhama. Pushpavalli died in 1991.

Judge Chandrasekharam is very kind and helpful to the relatives of the culprits. His wife dies after giving birth to a baby boy. His son Raja was killed by two youth (Prasanna Rani and Vijayachander). Relates the true meaning of friendship between two youths, Raghu (Sivaji Ganesan) and Ravi (S. S. Rajendran). Ravi leaves his hometown in Tamil Nadu and comes to Amritsar. Here, Raghu finds him in an unconscious state and takes him home. Raghu sacrifices his managerial post and gives it to Ravi. Ravi, however, does not reveal his true identity and the real reason for leaving home. As per his parents wish, Ragu sees a girl to marry. However, when Ravi sees the photograph of the girl, he asks Rghu not to marry her. A shocking truth about the girl is then revealed to Raghu.

Harish Khanna (Ashok Kumar) lives in a happy household consisting of his wife Maya (Nirupa Roy) and his large family of seven daughters and one son. Also staying with them is his widowed sister (Lalita Pawar), and her son Jaggu (Mehmood). Harish spends four days of the week away from his family for work. Harish and Maya soon have a ninth child much to Maya's consternation, as her older daughter, Kamla (Bharati Malvankar) who is married to Gopal is also expecting a child. The fact that Kamla is pregnant is a cause of anxiety, as according to Gopal's parents, the couple have not been together since the wedding and her pregnancy is considered as a sign of her disreputable character. Gopal is not there to give an explanation and his parents decide to send Harish's older daughter back home. Harish finds out that two of his daughters, Kiran (Rajshree) and Kamini (Indrani Mukherjee) are in love with Mohan (Manoj Kumar), the son of the College principal, and Ravindra (Soodesh Kumar) respectively, and that Jaggu is in love with Rekha (Shobha Khote). Harish decides to get the three pairs married.

Durjaya kills his elder brother Maharajah Jayaveera of Vindhya Kingdom and occupies the throne. Shatamitra secretly takes care of the Prince Shivasri and waiting for an opportunity to take revenge. Life is a constant struggle for Malini, a poor young woman with an ailing father. She reluctantly accepts stage actor-friend Sundari’s suggestion to go on stage, and joins her theatre group, Kala Mandhiram. Success smiles on her and she soon becomes an idol of the masses. Sampath, a suave swindler, befriends Malini and takes control of her life. He persuades her to start her own theatre company. A puppet in his hands, Malini severs ties with those who have helped her in the past such as Sundari. Soon she is in debt and back at the bottom of the ladder. Sampath abandons her. Sundari and others come to her rescue and Malini goes back to Kala Mandhiram and begins her life anew, sadder but certainly wiser.
