Uthama Purushan is a 1989 Tamil drama film, directed by K. Subash, starring Prabhu, Revathi and Amala in lead roles. The film, produced by V. Mohan and V. Natarajan, had musical score by Sankar Ganesh, and was released on 1 September 1989.
Synopsis
Raghu (Prabhu), a womaniser, is married to Lakshmi (Revathi). Raghu works in a company and he falls under the spell of Rekha (Amala), his new secretary. At this juncture, one day he asked Rekha to come to a lodge for some office work with wrong intention, Raghu has been come to the lodge but Rekha couldn't come and she informed to Raghu through phone, while he went to attend the phone, in his neighbour's room a man killed a lady and put inside the bureau of Raghu's room, Raghu didn't know this and vacate the room. Later Raghu was arrested, then he escaped from the police custody and finally find the real accused Dinesh (Thalapathi Dinesh).Actors

The story revolves around three unemployed people (the third is a middle-aged unsuccessful theatre owner). The story opens with the arrival of Sivaraman (Prabhu) in Chennai to dispute the denial of his company job which he was supposed to receive several years ago. Several candidates have passed him by with the last one being Rani who pretends to be an influential figure in the town. She threatens Balakrishnan to allow her to continue working despite his efforts to overthrow her. The company manager Venniradai Moorthy who knows her family situation (poor and pathetic) helps her to keep the job. Sivaraman is determined to stay back in the town until he succeeds in getting his job back from Rani.

Aarumugam makes a blazing entrance, gatecrashing a marriage to abduct the bride. Geetha, the bride's friend, gets him arrested but then learns that he had rescued the girl from a forced marriage. Further revelations about him that he is a gold medalist, has a good heart, make her fall in love with him. After some convincing, Aarumugam reciprocates too. Meanwhile, Aarumugam's sister is in love with the son of a rich woman Rajarajeswari. When Rajarajeswari learns of this, she foists a false case on her and puts her in jail. It is then that Aarumugam has his first encounter with Rajarajeswari. He then learns that she is none other than Geetha's mother. He also invites Geetha's mother Rajarajeswari to his marriage. At that time he calls his friend (played by Chiranjeevi) and tells him that during his marriage there are goons to stop this marriage, he requests him to look after the rowdies and Chiranjeevi comes and fights off the goons and attends the marriage and he goes. He marries Geetha against her mother's wishes. Rajarajeswari vows to separate Geetha from him while he vows to prevent that and make Rajarajeswari understand that love and affection are more important than money.Which is an important message delivered to the audience.

Sethu (Kamal Haasan) and Ranjani (Rekha) arrive at a cliff where they plan to commit suicide due to the pressure put up by Ranjani's parents against their marriage. Sethu who is the son of an ordinary drunkard cook (Delhi Ganesh) and is also a dancer is not accepted as groom for Ranjani by her parents. The parents threaten Ranjani that either they would kill Sethu or commit suicide. While jumping from the cliff Sethu accidentally gets trapped in a tree and escapes but Ranjani dies. Despite the attempts made by Ranjani's father to jail Sethu by framing a fault case that Sethu killed Ranjani, no strong evidence was there to prove it. He is jailed for the offence of attempted suicide for one year.
