Uttar Dakshin (English: North and South) is a 1987 Hindi film produced by Ashok Khanna and Subhash Ghai and directed by Prabhat Khanna and featuring Bharathi, Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher and Rajinikanth in the lead roles. Laxmikant Pyarelal have composed the music, while Anand Bakshi has written the lyrics for the film.
Synopsis
The film borrows heavily from Yash Chopra's classic movie Trishul with Amitabh Bachchan. Jackie Shroff, Rajinikanth and Kulbhushan Kharbanda play the respective roles of Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar in Trishul. Subhash Ghai has assisted in filming this. At the time of his mother's death, Raja comes to know that his father is still alive and living a wealthy life. Raja now befriends Shankran, his step-brother and steals his girlfriend Chanda (played by Madhuri Dixit). He also fraudulently takes signatures of Shankran on certain property papers. However, Shankran's mother is a very intelligent lady and catches Raja red-handed. However, she does not hand him over the police when she comes to know that he is her step son. Meanwhile Shankran is unable to handle Chanda's rejection and is in grief. However, he too excuses Raja after he comes to know that he is his step brother. Meanwhile, their father Krishnakant (played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda) returns from abroad and when he comes to know about this, he is very upset. He is about to take action against Raja but excuses him after he comes to know that he is his elder son. All's well that ends well.Actors

The story revolves around two brothers, Kishen (Jackie Shroff) and Karan (Anil Kapoor), who have spent their childhood growing up alone on the streets of Mumbai. In order for Karan to have a better upbringing and education, Kishen joins Anna Seth (Nana Patekar). Anna owns an oil factory, but that's a mere prop to cover up his dealings within the underworld. Karan is unaware of the fact that his brother is working for a gang. Inspector Prakash (Anupam Kher), Karan's best friend, is aware of Anna's gang activities and wants to bring him to justice. Anna knows that Karan and Prakash are best friends, so he sets up the murder of Prakash when Prakash and Karan are supposed to meet after Karan's arrival from America. Karan witnesses the murder of his friend Prakash, who dies in his arms.

Bharathi plays an deserted wife to (Vinod Mehra). She abandons her newly born son outside of a temple where he is rescued by a rikshawala (Mehmood). The boy develops polio and the rikshawala feels guilty after a doctor (Sanjeev Kumar) admonishes him. He takes care of the boy and loves him as his own. In the mean time, the boy's real-life parents reconcile and turn to a police officer (Vinod Khanna) for help in finding their missing son. when they find their child the rikshawala does not want to give him up. The policeman urges him to do, as the wealthy parents can pay for an operation that can help the boy walk again. He does sorrowfully. But the boy comes back with his parents to see the rikshawala die. The film ends with Mehmood, the actor, getting up and explaining to the audience that his death was for the camera, but polio is real and deadly and that people should get their children vaccinated.

Beta is the story of Raju (Anil Kapoor), the only child of a widowed multi-millionaire father who can provide his son with anything he wants except Raju's only desire—a mother's love. Raju's father believes he can please his son by marrying Laxmi (Aruna Irani), thinking that she will care for Raju as her natural son. In order to settle personal scores; two gang leaders, Jai Singh and Oberoi fight for many years in gang-wars. There enmity multiplies when Jai's younger brother, Suraj falls in love with Oberoi's sister, Sapna which forces Suraj and Sapna to elope. Jai then locates the duo and brings them back to try and convince Oberoi to get them marry albeit successful. Jai then decides to give up his criminal ways but Oberoi's consent to the couple's marriage comes to light when Jai is gun down by Oberoi's men which injures and makes him a patient in hospital. Suraj then raise to this occasion to put an end to the entire Oberoi's family and thus the blood shed continues.
