It was an adaptation of the play They All Want Something by Courtenay Savage, which was itself based on a novel by E.J. Rath. A separate Spanish language version Thus Is Life was made at the same time. The film was remade in 1938 as Merrily We Live. It is also known by the alternative title The Gentleman Chauffeur.
Synopsis
A British ex-Grenadier Guards officer moves to America, but struggles to find work. After he is employed as a chauffeur to a wealthy family, he falls in love with his employer's daughter.Actors

Burton Grant exposes politician Jarvis McVey as a crook in a newspaper and is run out of town. He asks his daughter Sylvia to turn his job over to editor Frank Summers. Soon, the towns people are after her and her father comes back to protect her against the outraged townsfolk, while Frank concerns about proving her reliability.

Elyot Chase and Amanda Prynne, divorced after a tempestuous marriage, are dismayed to discover they both have opted to honeymoon with their new spouses at the same hotel on the French Riviera. When the Titanic sinks, infant Dorothy Hunter (Miriam Hopkins) is left an orphan. She is brought up by John Connors (Henry Stephenson), whose wife was also lost in the disaster.
