Rio Galdez vit dans un village perdu au fin fond de l'Amazonie. Il y exerce le cabotage et son vieux rafiot lui sert à la fois pour un peu de contrebande et la traversée des passagers qui le louent. Le village accueille d'autres déclassés, notamment Jerry Russell, autrefois ingénieur, mais qui a sombré dans l'alcoolisme et n'a plus qu'une obsession: retrouver un trésor fabuleux qui, d'après d'anciens parchemins, se trouverait dans la Vallée des Vents, sur le territoire des indiens Jivaros. The story is set during the reign of King George III, in Bristol, England, where young Benjamin Blake (Roddy McDowall), son of the deceased Baronet of Breetholm is taken from his commoner grandfather, gunsmith Amos Kidder (Harry Davenport), and forced to serve his vengeful uncle, Sir Arthur Blake (George Sanders). Arthur inherited the title and land from his brother Godfrey, and fears that Ben may not have been born out of wedlock and might claim his inheritance. In 1906, Alipang (Tetsu Komai) and his Muslim Moro guerrillas are terrorizing the people of the Philippine island of Mindanao, raiding villages, killing the men, and carrying off the women and children for slaves. Instead of maintaining garrisons indefinitely to protect the Filipinos, the U.S. army tests out a new tactic at Fort Mysang. A prospector heading for the Alaska gold fields loses most of his money gambling. His luck changes when he pays $250 for a sled dog to keep him from being shot by an arrogant Englishman, who is also headed for the Yukon. Tony and Jim Dunlap are happily married.
