Synopsis
Dolph wakes up early in the morning in his suburban home to find that his dog is missing. He is in denial that he has lost his job and shows up to his office to work every day and pretends to do his work. Dolph's need to live in a world of denial about all the areas in his life that are obviously not working is found throughout his life. A palm tree in his backyard transforms into a pine tree. It's raining inside Dolph's office even though none of his co-workers seem to notice it or care that they're being soaked. To put his life back together, he goes in search for his dog.Actors

Georges est le souffre-douleur de ses camarades de classe. Un jour, il craque et les mitraille. Fran Garrison (Suzanne Pleshette) and her husband Mark (Dean Jones) are a young happy married couple and the proud owners of an award-winning Dachshund named Danke. The movie begins with them frantically getting into the car and heading to the hospital as "the pain has started and it's about time". In a hurry to the hospital, Officer Carmody tries to pull them over for going 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. After notifying that they are on the way to the hospital and indicating that Fran is the one in labor, Officer Carmody pulls in front of them and turns on the sirens to escort them to the county hospital. After he arrives and turns to find that Mr. and Mrs. Garrison have gone past him, he gets back on his motorcycle and follows them to the vet. It is then revealed that Danke is the one in labor. While Mark is outside waiting on Fran, Officer Carmody catches up to him and after Mark thanks him for helping them get to the vet on time, Officer Carmody reveals that he was under the impression that Mrs. Garrison was the one in labor and proceeds to write multiple traffic violation tickets totaling to $110. On the day that Mr. Garrison arrives at the vet to pick up Danke and her three newborn puppies: Wilhelmina, Heidi, and Chloe, veterinarian Dr. Pruitt (Charlie Ruggles) mentions that his female Great Dane, Duchess, has also just given birth but unfortunately does not have enough milk for all of her puppies and the runt of the group has been cast aside by her - as most dogs do under these circumstances. Doc Pruitt convinces Mark to bring the Great Dane puppy home so that Danke may wet nurse him until he has weaned. When he arrives home and Fran notices that there is another puppy, she is surprised but does not suspect that the puppy is from another litter and reminds Mark that he should thank Danke for giving him a boy like he always wanted. Before he knows it and after keeping his secret from Fran, the puppies have grown drastically in size. Of course, the Great Dane puppy whom he has named Brutus is significantly larger than the other four Dachshunds. As the dog grows up with Fran's Dachshund puppies, he believes he is one of them and picks up mannerisms like hunching close to the ground to walk. The Dachshunds are mischievous creatures and lead poor unsuspecting Brutus through a series of comic misadventures with Officer Carmody (now Sergeant Carmody) being chased up a tree, Mark's studio being splattered with paint, and a garden party being turned topsy-turvy. Fran wants Mark to remove Brutus from the house once-and-for-all but when Brutus saves her favorite puppy, Chloe from the garbage truck, she changes her mind. Mark and Fran enter their dogs in a dog show with Brutus meeting others of his breed. He notices a female Harlequin Great Dane and stands at attention. He goes on to win two blue ribbons. Brutus finally finds out what it's like to be a Great Dane.

When Charlie Brown's baseball team loses the first Little League game of the season, he becomes convinced that he will never win anything. Linus encourages him to maintain a positive attitude and suggests that people learn more from losing. When Charlie Brown remains morose ("That makes me the smartest person in the world," he says), Linus assures him that he will eventually win at something...but then promptly makes a liar of himself by beating Charlie at a game of tic-tac-toe. That night, Snoopy has a nightmare about being shot down while fighting an aerial battle with an unshown enemy, and he takes over Charlie Brown's bed. When Charlie Brown stops at Lucy's psychiatric help booth, she prepares slides to show him all of his faults; the experience only leaves him more depressed. At a playground, Lucy jokingly suggests that Charlie Brown enter the school spelling bee. Linus, however, considers it a good idea and encourages him despite the jeers of Lucy, Patty, and Violet ("Failure Face").

The action takes place in the years 1958-1959 in Sweden. Troubled 12-year-old Ingemar (Anton Glanzelius) gets into all sorts of trouble, which drives his mother (Anki Lidén) crazy; Ingemar does not know that his mother is in fact terminally ill. When he and his older brother become too much for her, they are split up and sent to live with relatives. Benji is a lovable stray dog who lives in a small Texas town where he has befriended many local people, each of whom calls him by a different name, but the people he likes best are two school-age children (Paul and Cindy) and their housekeeper, Mary. Paul and Cindy's father, however, doesn't want a dog around the place. One day Benji befriends a stray dog (presumably a Maltese) that Mary calls Tiffany, and the kids beg their father to allow them to keep her and Benji, but he refuses. Benji escorts Tiffany to his hide-out, an apparently abandoned house. Two people later break in and bring a kidnapped Paul and Cindy into the house. Benji rushes to "tell" George and Mary of the kids' whereabouts but is shooed out. He then grabs the ransom note, but it gets taken from him and poor Benji is a loss at what to do next. He follows two policemen into the station and gets locked in and seems doomed until he accidentally turns on the drive-through intercom and the policeman lets him out. He goes back to the old house and spots a failed try at writing the ransom note and an idea strikes him. He grabs the crumpled note but is grabbed by one of the kidnappers and Tiffany rushes out and bites him and gets a vicious kick in return (she is not killed but apparently injured). Benji races back to Mary the kids' Dad, but Linda beats him there. The rest is for you to see. Camp never revealed the plot to the press but rather spoke of the essence of the movie: "It's a love story about a dog struggling against the odds to accomplish something that most people would consider to be impossible; and it's the first film ever in which a dog actually acted and expressed emotion on the screen. He was more or less the three-dimensional character in the film and the people were more or less the props. The dialog is in the eyes of the dog." Many film critics stated that Benji deserved a Best Actor Oscar for his acting.

The film opens with an unsuccessful professional clown, Norman F. Snively, and his dog by the name of "Old Blue," doing a show at a birthday party. Due to the dog causing trouble at the birthday party and both being tossed out of the house, Snively angrily takes him in a kennel to a dog pound, until the kennel falls off his truck. The dog is homeless until he meets a 12-year-old boy, Josh Framm (whom the plot mainly revolves around). After the death of his father, who died in a plane crash during a test flight (indicated in the headline of a framed newspaper article briefly read by Josh), Josh moves with his family from Virginia to Fernfield, Washington. Due to heartbreak over his father's passing, he is too shy to try out for his middle school's basketball team and to make any friends. He instead becomes the basketball team's manager, an absurd offer by coach Joe Barker which he accepts. He practices basketball by himself in a makeshift court that he sets up in a disused allotment, where he first meets the dog, naming him Buddy. Josh soon learns that Buddy has the uncanny ability to play basketball.
