Synopsis
After a terrorist attack, Sarah takes her injured father to a busy and overworked hospital, only to lose consciousness during the stressful attempt to save his life. When she comes to, the hospital seems deserted. Sarah quickly discovers that zombies have taken over the building, and, along with other survivors, flees the hospital and attempts to survive against the undead hordes.Comments

Set between the events of Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 3, The story follows online reporter Chase Carter and his camerawoman Jordan as they cover the stories of the people inside of the walled-in quarantined area in Oregon, as the government (running an organization called FEZA—Federal Emergency Zombie Authority) attempts to contain a viral outbreak that turns people into ravenous zombies. During a zombie apocalypse, Malcolm Grant, a CIA agent, allows himself to be experimented on by a government lab run by General Morton. The story begins with a military truck transporting barrels of Trioxin. The soldier, driving the vehicle through a downpour, is unaware when a barrel breaks loose and falls into a river. The next morning, a young boy, Jesse Wilson, is at the cemetery with 2 local bullies. The trio investigate the Trioxin tank that they find, and Jesse warns them that they should not tamper with it. The bullies trap Jesse in a derelict mausoleum and leave him. They then return to the trioxin tank and manage to release the toxic gas. A van pulls up to the graveyard, introducing the characters Ed, Joey, and Brenda. Ed explains to Joey that they are there to rob graves; Brenda expresses her fears for cemeteries, but Joey assures her that it will be worth their time and leaves Brenda in the van. He heads into the cemetery with Ed. They decide to loot the mausoleum and open the locked doors, releasing Jesse, who immediately runs home. At his home, Jesse watches his older sister, Lucy, doing aerobic exercises to a work-out video; she tells Jesse to do his homework or he will be grounded.

After spores cause the dead to rise as zombies, the undead become a natural and accepted part of society. Michael, who has recently broken up with Gabi, visits her Berlin apartment to return her keys and hopefully save the relationship. He finds two plumbers there, and they do not know where she is. As Michael attempts to contact Gabi, a rage virus transforms people into bloodthirsty cannibals, and one of the plumbers attacks Michael. As Berlin falls into anarchy, Michael and the remaining workman, Harper, barricade themselves in the apartment complex and brace for an attack. They soon realize that the rage virus can be temporarily subdued by remaining calm or using sedatives. They also learn that the infected are photosensitive. The pair uses this weakness to attempt to make contact with the other inhabitants of the apartment complex. Michael, Harper, and Anita, a resident, attempt to break out of the apartment building and make their way to Gabi, whom Michael believes is in danger.
