Life in a middle-class neighbourhood in present day Recife takes an unexpected turn after the arrival of an independent private security firm. The presence of these men brings a sense of safety, but also a good deal of anxiety, to a culture which runs on fear. Meanwhile, Bia (Maeve Jinkings), married and a mother of two, must find a way to deal with the constant barking and howling of her neighbour’s dog.
Sbórnia is a small country that has always been isolated from the rest of the world, surrounded by a large wall that does not allow its contact with the neighbors. One day, however, an accident leads to the fall of the wall, and later the sbornians begin to discover the modern customs. Two local musicians, Kraunus and Pletskaya, observe the reactions of their countrymen: while some quickly adopt foreign culture, others prefer to reaffirm the sbornians traditions and resist imperialism.

Friends since the childhood, Preta (Negra Li), Bárbarah (Leilah Moreno), Mayah (Quelynah) and Lena (Cindy Mendes, a.k.a. Maria Madalena, as Cindy) quit singing the backing vocals for a male rap group and form Antônia, their own group. Discovered by the smooth-talking manager Marcelo Diamante (Thaíde), they begin to sing rap, MPB, pop and soul in bars and in middle-class parties.
The film starts in the 1940s, during another drought in the sertão, when ranch hand Manuel (Geraldo Del Rey) is fed up with his situation. His boss tries to cheat him of his earnings and Manuel kills him, fleeing with his wife, Rosa (Yoná Magalhães). Now an outlaw, Manuel joins up with a self-proclaimed saint who condones violence (at one point slaughtering a baby) and preaches disturbing doctrines. It is now Rosa who turns to killing and the two are on the move once again. And so it goes, the two running from one allegiance to another, following the words of others as they attempt to find a place in their ruthless land. Blending mysticism, religion, and popular culture in this symbolic and realistic drama, Rocha insists that rather than follow the external and obscure dogmas of culture and religion, man must determine his path by his own voice.

O Invasor raconte l'histoire de trois amis, se connaissant depuis l'école d'ingénieur, partenaires dans une entreprise de construction depuis plus de 15 ans. Tout se passe bien jusqu'au jour où un désaccord dans la conduite des affaires les met en conflit.
