Après une carrière de dix années passées dans l'administration du gouvernement, il commence à écrire de manière professionnelle à l'âge de 33 ans. Sa carrière de scénariste débute en 1953 avec son premier film qui est en même temps le premier film en 3-D de la firme Paramount, Sangaree.David Duncan est connu pour ses œuvres de science-fiction au cinéma, parmi lesquelles figurent la version de 1960 de La Machine à explorer le temps et Le Voyage fantastique. When Ben Garvey, a reformed criminal on parole, unexpectedly loses his job because of his criminal records, he turns to his ex-con brother which subsequently leads to a laboratory robbery of gold dust gone horribly wrong, and his brother killed. Sentenced to death, he wakes up from his lethal injection near a psychiatric hospital in a small Oregon town, where he is told that he has been given a second chance from God and to begin work as a groundskeeper at the local mental hospital. In the year 1899, Dr. Alexander Hartdegen (Guy Pearce) is a moderately young inventor teaching at Columbia University in New York City. A young woman named Jessica Burns (Carolyn Kearney), who claims to have psychic powers, lives on a remote ranch with her Aunt Flavia (Peggy Converse).
