Ghantasala Balaramayya was a producer, director and actor in Telugu cinema. He is known for introducing actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao to the Telugu film industry in the Prathiba Pictures production, Seetaram Jananam.

Biography

Ghantasala Balaramayya was born in 1906 (Pottepalem, Nellore District) into a Brahmin family. He started his career as a stage singer and later started to produce & direct. He is the grandfather of the music director, S. Thaman.

Prabhu (ANR) dreamt of a lovely lady, his 'Dream Girl' or 'Swapna Sundari'. He encounters a tribal queen (G. Varalakshmi) while on tour, who falls in love with him, but he rejects her. He finally meets his 'Swapna Sundari' (Anjali Devi) who is actually a Deva Kanya. The love is mutual. She leaves her Godly abode to stay with Prabhu. But an evil Mantrik (Mukkamala) finds out that with her help, he can conquer the world and become invincible so he kidnaps her. Prabhu, with the help of the tribal queen vanquishes the evil Mantrik, but the Rani dies. Swapna Sundari and Prabhu live happily ever after.

The story is set in a kingdom. The chief minister wants his daughter to marry the King's only son, the future prince. The King refused the idea, and the angry minister captures and arrests the King and runs the Kingdom. A loyal countryman Veeranna (Nagabhushanam) takes the Prince and leaves him in the forest away from the evil minister's hands, but gets captured himself. The Prince, grows up as the forest chief's adopted son Kannayya (N.T. Rama Rao). Veeranna's daughter is Nana (Anjali Devi). Both of them grows up as thieves. The old King escapes finally and stays at Nana's house. Nana steals the Princess Lalita Devi's (Devika) necklace and Kannayya returns it to her. The princess falls in love with him. Nana also falls for the Kannayya too. He gets to know his true identity, defeats his enemies and gets back his Kingdom.
