Jarmo Mäkinen (born 29 May 1958 in Karstula, Finland) is a Finnish actor.

Mäkinen began acting in 1989 on television working consistently throughout the 1990s appearing in several films and TV series mostly notably in Vita lögner which he starred in 27 episodes in 1999. However since 2000 he has gradually made more appearances on the big screen, and in film he starred in the 2003 film Sibelius working with Finnish director Timo Koivusalo and actors such as Martti Suosalo, Heikki Nousiainen, Seela Sella, Miina Turunen and Vesa Vierikko.

Most of his work in cinema has been in Swedish film where his powerful physical build has often seen him typecast as a bad guy.

Zara, jeune mineure, part vers l'ouest de l’Estonie, en croyant qu'une place d'employée d'hôtel l'attend. Elle tombe en fait dans les filets d'un réseau de prostitution russe. Battue et violée, elle arpente bientôt les trottoirs des zones industrielles. Une nuit, Aliide, une vieille femme vivant recluse à la campagne, la découvre, gisant sans connaissance devant chez elle, et lui ouvre sa porte. D'abord méfiantes, les deux femmes apprennent qu'elles ont en commun la violence infligée par les hommes. Pendant l'occupation soviétique, Aliide, elle aussi, a consenti à nombre de sacrifices pour survivre. Mais le temps est compté : la mafia russe a pris Zara en chasse.

Début des années 1960. Copains depuis l'âge de 7 ans, Niila et Matti vivent à Pajala, bourgade paumée du nord de la Suède. Il ne s'y passe jamais rien, sauf quelques tensions entre Suédois et Finlandais de souche, la majorité d'entre eux parlant un étrange volapük. Ici, les "vrais hommes" lèvent bien le coude, chassent l'élan et font beaucoup d'enfants qu'ils n'hésitent pas à battre pour leur apprendre le respect de Dieu. Tout change le jour où Niila échange la bible de sa grand-mère contre un 45-tours des Beatles. Avec leur nouveau professeur de musique, lui et Matti décident de monter un groupe de rock... Une tragi-comédie exquise et très rythmée, qui joue sur une multitude de registres : on y trouve à la fois le côté chronique adolescente du Péril jeune de Cédric Klapisch, le psychédélisme d'Emir Kusturica, le laconisme d'Aki Kaurismaki et les doutes d'Ingmar Bergman. L'occasion aussi de revoir la sublime Kati Outinen, qui interprète la mère de Niila.

In his hometown Oulu, Lepistö meets a man who shows him a map of Lapland, showing an "X" mark at the spot where he claims is gold. Lepistö believes the man and shows the map to his companion Ervasti. Lepistö and Ervasti travel to the Teno River, where they manage to find a couple of grams of gold. They travel back to Oulu to lay official claim on the find site but are told it has already been claimed. Finally a large gold rush to Lapland starts.

A joint mission of the American FBI and the Russian MVD leads to the death of the younger brother of an Azerbaijani mobster (David Hayman). In retaliation, the mobster hires an enigmatic assassin known only by the pseudonym "The Jackal" (Bruce Willis) to kill an unseen target. The Jackal demands $70 million for the job, to which the mobster reluctantly agrees. Meanwhile, the MVD capture one of the mafia's henchmen. During interrogation by torture, the henchman reveals the name "Jackal". This, coupled with the documents recovered from the henchman's briefcase, leads the FBI and MVD to assume the target for the retaliatory hit is FBI Director Donald Brown (John Cunningham).
