Lata Mangeshkar (About this sound pronunciation ) (born 28 September 1929) is an Indian singer, and occasional music-composer. She is one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in India. Mangeshkar's career started in 1942 and has spanned over seven decades. She has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages, though primarily in Marathi and Hindi. She is the elder sister of singers Asha Bhosle, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. She is the second vocalist, after M. S. Subbulakshmi, to have ever been awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.
Biography
Lata Mangeshkar est née le 28 septembre 1929, à Indore, dans l'État du Madhya Pradesh, en Inde. Issue d'une famille marathe, elle est la fille de l'érudit Deenanath Mangeshkar, un chanteur classique et acteur de théâtre et de Shevanti Mangeshkar.
À sa naissance, Lata Mangeshkar s'appelait Hema. Ses parents la renomment plus tard Lata en hommage à un personnage féminin, Latika, dans l'une des pièces de son père, BhaawBandhan. Lata est l'aînée de la fratrie. Elle a trois sœurs et un frère cadets, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, Meena Khadikar et Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
Son père lui donne ses premières leçons de chant; dès l'âge de cinq ans, elle commence à travailler comme actrice dans ses pièces musicales, comme Sangeet Natak.
Carrière
Adolescente, elle perd son père, décédé en 1942 d'une maladie cardio-vasculaire et doit chanter pour subvenir à ses besoins et à ceux de sa famille.
Lata Mangeshkar connaît un succès immédiat dès 1940 en chantant les œuvres du compositeur de musique de film Naushad et depuis sa notoriété n'a cessé de grandir. S'il y a une chose sur laquelle les indiens et les pakistanais s'accordent, c'est sur la voix de Lata : tous lui décernent le titre de reine de la mélodie. On se souviendra que dans pratiquement chaque film indien, on trouve plusieurs passages chantés et dansés, et que les acteurs sont doublés par des chanteurs professionnels.
Détenant le record Guinness du nombre le plus importants d'enregistrements pour une voix - plus de 50 000 d'après le livre Guinness des records et la BBC, probablement 25 000 en réalité, dans 14 langues indiennes cependant - elle a travaillé avec presque tous les compositeurs de musique en Inde, depuis le légendaire Naushad jusqu'à l'enfant prodige, A. R. Rahman. Elle a par ailleurs enregistré 440 titres avec Mohammed Rafi, détenteur du record masculin du plus grand nombre d'enregistrements vocaux.
Sous son nom ou sous le pseudonyme de Anandghan, elle a composé pour plusieurs films : Raam Raam Pahune (1950), Mohityanchi Manjula (1962), Maratha Tituka Melvava (1964), Saadhi Maanse (1965) et Tambadi Maati (1969).
Elle est aussi productrice des films Vaadal (1953), Jhaanjhar (1953), Kanchan (1955) et Lekin (1990).
Elle apparait à l'écran comme comédienne dans Pahili Mangalagaur (1942), Chimukla Sansaar (1943), Maajhe Baal (1943), Gajabhau (1944), Badi Maa (1945), Jeevan Yaatra (1946), Subhadra (1946), Mandir (1948) et Chattrapati Shivaji (1952).
Elle est connue pour son interprétation extraordinaire de Aye mere watan ke logon dans un camp militaire durant la guerre sino-indienne de 1962.
Elle a remporté toutes les récompenses culturelles indiennes (Prix Dadasaheb Phalke, Kalidas Samman, Maharashtra Puraskar...) et a été décorée de la Bharat Ratna, la plus haute récompense civile décernée par l'État indien.

Kavita couldn't bear the trauma of her husband's illness and her son's disease, thus she decides to devote herself to god for five days without drinking a sip of water. Her prayers get answered and her husband's life is saved and her son's operation is successful. She dies in the feet of god while praying and her eyes get donated to Salina. Salina and Guddu get married and are blessed with twins and they live happily ever after.
