The movie starts off with Narendan Achari(Salim Kumar) at a shop with his daughter who has been treated with brain tumour. He is distracted for some time during which his daughter goes missing. In a frenzy he rushes to the nearest police station but is frustrated at their lack of efforts at finding her. Later he is seen driving away in his car and causing an accident involving a petroleum tanker. There are casualties and the police and the fire force arrive and try to contain the situation. However, the tanker springs a leak and a police officer inadvertly causes an explosion despite Asams' best efforts to thwart this. Asams is wounded in the ensuing explosion destroying his lower body. Fire man Vijay(Mammooty) appears heroically to the scene and takes over the reins of the disaster avertment plans that Colin Francis had been heading previously. Vijay and the police force clashes as to what action plan to take. In the ensuing fight Vijay is given full reins of the project and a humiliated Colin chooses to depart from the scene with his long time girlfriend Jyo. As the film progresses it is found that this had all been the master project of a man identified only as Kanjan to break someone out of the central jail. However the force is left with no option but to vacate the jail which is when Kanjan has decided to break the prisoner. Vijay locks himself in the jail in order to find out who the wannabe free prisoner is and finds the culprit successfully thwarting a major disaster.

The whole story happens over two days, when five friends get together to celebrate New Year's Eve. The story revolves around Joseph Alex I.A.S (Mammootty) and Bharathchandran IPS (Suresh Gopi). A Pakistan military group under Maj. Abu Jalal Rana trespasses Indian waters, targeting New Delhi. The plan, however, is intercepted by Dr. Emma John of Intelligence Wing as she informs it to her senior Padmabhushan Dr. Sudarshan (Nedumudi Venu). Before they can tell the home minister, however, they are killed by two cops, who is joined by a senior police officer, Shankar Ramdas (Devan). Unbeknownst to them, Imran, a photo journalist manages to take pictures of the scene onto his camera. Meanwhile, Kishore Balakrishnan (Vijay Menon), the senior analyst at the agency, sets off to see Swami Chandramoulishwar (Saikumar) at his ashram demanding for the information he passed before. However, Swami was able to suffocate him before pushing him into the Yamuna river. The next day, the bodies of Kishore, Dr. Sudarshan, and Dr. Emma are all found in the river. Since both the bodies of the doctors are seen in an intimate position, the police concludes that Kishore killed the two out of jealousy, and then killed himself right after by drowning himself into the river.

With the happening of a crime the movie has opened. Then comes an investigation officer Alexander (Sreenivasan), and an assistant (Vinay Forrt). Alexander unlike the assistant, is an officer who doesn't believe in torturing the accused people to prove crimes. He is touted as one of the toughest cops in the service to get deceived. Though he is a man who even fears to witness a live postmortem, he is intelligent enough to prove crimes. He proves this one too without much problems. Parallel to this, we are shown another crime. Harsha Vardhan (Dulquer Salmaan) is a man of mystery. He lives lonely in a big house, and teaches music to one kid. Apart from the role of a mucisian he has one more role to play in life – that of a sadist killer. The film takes a "U" turn post interval, which zoomed in to story that took place four year back. There we can see Harsha as an aspiring young musician. The struggles that he has to face in the initial years of his career are shown here. Not only in his career, but also in his life too he was seen struggling to maintain his relationship with the lover. Then his wife is murdered and how he plans to set revenge on the one who murdered his wife.
