Sarvadaman D. Banerjee (सर्वदमन D. बैनरजी) is an Indian film and television actor known for his works in Hindi cinema, Bengali cinema and Telugu cinema. He is best known for playing Krishna in Ramanand Sagar's hit television series Krishna (1993). He played the title role in films such as Adi Shankaracharya (1983), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film, and Swami Vivekananda. In the 1986 film Sirivennela, he played a blind flautist.

Biography

Banerjee was born into a Bengali speaking family on March 14, in Magarwara, Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. He went to St. Aloysius School, Kanpur and graduated from the Pune Film Institute. He now teaches meditation in Rishikesh.

The film mainly captures the events of Vivekananda's life from his birth to 1897, when he returned to India from the West. The film begins with the birth of Narendranath Datta (pre-monastic name of Swami Vivekananda) and shows the neighbors and relatives of Datta family celebrating the event. It immediately moves to the scene where Narendranath sees his father Vishwanath Datta is donating money, clothes, food to poor and distressed people. Seeing this, young Narendranath asks his father to give him something too, and his father tells him to go and look at mirror and find what he had already given him. Following his father's suggestion, Narndranath goes to the room, sees his image in the mirror.

Hari Prasad (Sarvadaman Banerjee), a blind flutist lives along with his younger sister in a village nearby Jaipur, which was also a tourist attraction. Though he lacks knowledge of classical music, he plays flute beautifully and makes living by playing it to tourists. One day guide Jyothirmai (Moon Moon Sen) comes there along with a bunch of tourists and listens to his flute. She understands his talent and helps him understand nature and to become a famous flutist. Years pass and Hari Prasad becomes Pandit Hari Prasad. Unknowing to her, Hari Prasad admires her very much and dedicates all his albums to her. Meanwhile a mute painter Subhashini (Suhasini) who meets him in his village, falls for him.

Atri and Anasuya meditate on the Trinity - Brahma, Vishnu and Eshwara with the desire of obtaining a son who is an embodiment of the Trinity. As a result, the trinity gift themselves to the couple by taking incarnation as their son Dattatreya. Dattatreya becomes Yogiraja in course of time and sets up an ashram in Sahyadri hills along with his consort Anagha. Indra having been dethroned by Jambhasura seeks refuge at Shri Datta swamy's feet on Narada maharshi's advice. Datta swamy and Anagha Devi bring peril to Jambhasura with their yogic powers. Vishnudatta, a Brahmin scholar unknowingly brings about a change in a (Brahmarakshasa) Demon's behaviours. Out of gratitude, the demon promises to take Vishnu Datta to Datta Swamy. On passing Datta Swamy's difficult test, he gets Upadesham from Datta Swamy. Kartaveerya, a prince born with defects seeks refuge at Datta Swamy's feet. On passing his divine test, Kartaveerya is bestowed with great power and becomes a just ruler. But overcome by pride, he steals Maharshi Jamadhagni's cow Surabhi. Bhargava Rama- Sri Vishnu incarnate, Jamadhagni Maharshi's son kills Kartaveerya. Upon hearing this news, Kartaveerya's sons and their close aides raid Jamadhagni's ashram in the absence of Bhargava Rama and behead Maharshi Jamadhagni. Bhargava Rama vows to kill all Kshatriyas(kings) with his axe (Parashu) and gains the name Parashu Rama. After the fulfilment of his oath he repents and seeks refuge at Shri Datta Swamy's feet. Datta Swamy shows him the path to eternal happiness.
