J. V. Somayajulu (Born Jonnalagadda Venkata Somayajulu - Telugu: జొన్నలగడ్డ వేంకట సోమయాజులు) (30 June 1928 – 27 April 2004) was an Indian film actor known for his works in Telugu cinema and a few Tamil and Hindi films. In 1979, He received the Filmfare Best Actor Award (Telugu) for his work in the classic Sankarabharanam. On the centenary of Indian cinema, Forbes included his performance in the film among the 25 Greatest Acting Performances of Indian Cinema.

Some of the other films that earned Somayajulu a good reputation as an actor were Allari Pillalu, Nelavanka, Rowdy Alludu, Swatimutyam, Tyagayya, Saptapadi, Vijeta, Appula Appa Rao and Vamsha Vruksham. He portrayed the guru character of Sri Raghavendra (played by Rajinikanth) in the Tamil movie Sri Raghavendrar. He made a 13-episode television serial based on the play Kanyasulkam.

For the development of Telugu theatre in the twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Somayajulu established 'Rasaranjani' along with his contemporaries, Chatla Sriramulu, Garimella Rama Murthy and Rallapalli. Somayajulu worked in the Directorate of Cultural Affairs before retiring from government service. He died of heart attack at Hyderabad in 2004 at the age of 76.

Biography

He was an IAS officer and is believed to be the only officer in that rank to have acted in films. He hailed from the village of Lukalam Agraharam near Urlam in Srikakulam district. His father worked as an Inspector in Prohibition & Excise department in Gudivada and other towns. He spent his childhood in Vizianagaram and also learnt playing stage dramas when he was in Vizianagaram.

His career spanned five decades in stage dramas, films and television. His passion for Gurazada Apparao's play, Kanyasulkam, was such that he, along with his actor brother J. V. Ramana Murthy, played it for about 500 times in 45 years. His exposition of the delightfully notorious character, 'Ramappanthulu' in the play, has become legendary. The woman behind the success of Somayajulu was his mother Saradamma. He died of illness at Hyderabad in 2004 at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Eshwar (Prashanth) is the son of Vishwanatham (R.Sundarajan) & (Vadivukarasi), who has a naturally helpful personality. He will come to the rescue of any one who is in difficulties. Eshwar’s friend is facing a problem in getting married to his fiancée. Eshwar helps his friend which leads to a skirmish brawl & also falls in love with his friend’s sister Sanghavi. When Eshwar’s love was accepted by both the parents they approach an astrologer J.V. Somayajalu who predicts Eshwar to be isolated for some time to avoid disaster in his life. Eshwar arrives with his friend Mani Gountamani to their estate in Coonoor - Ooty, where numerous incidents takes place. At one point of time a mentally retarded Oorvasi forcibly takes asylum in Eshwar’s estate. A local thug Ponnambalam tries to molest (Oorvasi) & Eshwar chases the goon Ponnambalam away. Later he was found dead. An inspector of police Devan, is deputed for investigating this case. Devan is a relative of Sanghavi & they were supposed to marry. The investigation leads to several proof & Eshwar is blamed for Ponnambalam’s murder.

The movie starts with a young man Surendra (Chiranjeevi) landing in a town for a job. He witnesses rivalry between two mafia gangs at that place. After a fight with a street goon, he is recognized by one gang and encouraged to become a don. He rents a room in Madhavi's house, who lives with her sister Roja and granny (Nirmalamma). After few routine scenes, Roja falls in love with Surendra and expresses her love. But Bavaraju Surendra becomes uncertain about his future, rejects Roja's proposal and starts looking for matches for her. Bose (Chiranjeevi) is a very patriotic man who fights for the rights of the local market workers against Aatma (Sharat Saxena), the nearby underworld don. Seeing his dedication for helping the working poor, the Chief Minister (Gummadi Venkateswara Rao) asks him to enter politics. As a politician, he takes charge of a special branch of commandos and destroys Aatma's illegal operations. In retaliation Aatma has Bose's sister falsely implicated in a prostitution case, after which she commits suicide on the court steps. Bose resigns from his position and takes revenge on Aatma. Finally, he returns to his old life at the market.

This movie begins with a scientist Prof. Ramdas (Tinnu Anand) doing vigorous experiments to invent a time machine at his home laboratory. After tremendous effort eventually he becomes successful. His daughter Hema (Mohini) and her fiancé Krishna Kumar (Nandamuri Balakrishna) accidentally get into the time machine and visit the past (time of Krishnadeva Raya's Empire). At another instance, the couple gets ended up in fictional future set up by the time machine wherein, the world is about to get destroyed through radiation effect after the end of Third World War. The story revolves around one more important aspect, the Krishnadeva Raya's Empire - the diamond in a highly secured museum. A high profile thief Raja Verma (Amrish Puri) has a queer hobby of burglary of expensive diamonds from all over the world museums. He makes an attempt to rob the diamond in the present time, which was witnessed by a school kid (Tarun Kumar) on his school excursion to the museum. He is trapped inside the museum and happens to see the robbery happening in front of his eyes and the kid manages to escape from the robbers and gets rescued from the museum by Krishna Kumar.
