The Dovzhenko Film Studios (Ukrainian: Національна кіностудія художніх фільмів імені О. Довженка, translit. Natsional'na kinostudiya khudozhnikh filmiv imeni O. Dovzhenka) is a former Soviet film production studios located in Ukraine that were named after the Ukrainian film producer, Alexander Dovzhenko, in 1957. With the fall of the Soviet Union, the studio became a property of the government of Ukraine. Since 2000 the film studios were awarded status national.

This movie is about a rocket pilot named Pirx who is hired to go on a mission to evaluate some nonlinears (robots) for use as crewmembers on future space flights. Pirx and his crew, made up of nonlinears and humans, are sent out to launch two satellites into the rings of Saturn. There is a near disaster and the human crew are almost killed. Upon returning to Earth there is an inquest to determine if Pirx was responsible for the "accident." In the end, it is found that one of the robots caused the malfunction in an attempt to kill the human crewmembers and Pirx is cleared of all charges.

The plot takes place between 1937 to 1947, in a little, traditional Hutsul village in Northern Bukovina. The Zvonars are a poor family of musicians, who eke out a living by performing in the local celebrations. Both older brothers, Petro and Orest, are in love with Dana, the priest's beautiful daughter. Their younger brother, Heorhii, is a dreamlike adolescent who is attracted to the village's witch, Vivdya. In 1940, the Romanian authorities cede the territory to the Soviets. Dana falls for a Red Army officer named Ostap and decides to marry him. On the day of their wedding, the Germans and Romanians invade. Ostap has to return to his unit, and Petro leaves the band to join the Red Army. Orest seduces Dana and takes her to the mountains, where he joins the Ukrainian nationalists and subsequently, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. After three years of brutal Romanian occupation, Ostap and Petro return as the Soviets retake the area. They attempt to introduce progress, bringing the villagers a modern tractor. Dana abandons Orest and returns to the village. He ties Ostap to the tractor and sets it aflame; Petro attempts to save him, but both die. When he visits a wedding to dance with Dana, older Heorhii and the villagers finally decide to confront him. He commits suicide when he is cornered. Heorhii studies medicine and becomes a doctor under the new Soviet system.

The film dwells of the love story in the midst of the Second World War in 1943. A Hutsul girl Annychka finds herself in the middle of hostilities and gets acquainted with a wounded soldier in the forest. Looking after the soldier, she falls in love with him and turns against her boyfriend in the village, who became a Nazi collaborator. Having told her father of the decision to elope with the soldier she drives her father to despair and eventual insanity. The story ends on a tragic note, when the father kills his daughter.

Dans le futur (1997), après une guerre atomique, la Terre est désormais divisée en deux régions, Hemis Nord et Hemis Sud qui sont encore en conflit. Le programme spatial d'Hemis Sud construit une fusée spatiale gràçe à laquelle le premier voyage vers Mars sera entrepris. Le directeur du projet, le Dr Albert Gordon et ses astronautes Paul Clinton et Craig Matthews voyagent jusqu'à la station spatiale où la fusée Mercury a été construite. Un jour avant le lancement (le 7 novembre 1997), une fusée d'Hemis Nord approche la station spatiale. On April 1944, Joseph Stalin orders the Red Army to liberate the Crimea from the German occupiers. The Wehrmacht's local commanders beg Hitler to allow them to retreat from the vulnerable position, but he refuses. Klim Yarko rentre en Ukraine par le train après son service militaire effectué dans une unité blindée. Il avoue aux camarades qui voyagent avec lui ne pas savoir où s'installer, car sans famille il n'est attendu par personne. Il a toutefois une idée. Dans une gazette, il est tombé sur la photo de Mariana Bajan qui dirige une brigade de tractoristes dans un kolkhoze. Il se rend donc à ce kolkhoze à la tombée de la nuit. En chemin, il découvre Mariana qui vient de faire une chute de moto. Il lui porte secours et rentre avec elle au village. Les jeunes gens sympathisent. Klim en tant que bon mécanicien est très bien accueilli par le directeur du kolkhoze Kirill Petrovitch. Toutefois il ne sait pas que, pour repousser les prétendants à son cœur, Mariana avait demandé à l'un des kolkhoziens, un certain Nazar Douma, de se présenter comme son fiancé. Celui-ci prend son rôle très au sérieux et, un matin, essaye de chasser Klim comme les autres. Klim décide de partir, mais à la suite d'un concours de circonstances il devient brigadier de l'unité concurrente de Mariana et chef de Nazar. Nazar n'est pas bien noté par Kirill Petrovitch qui demande à Klim d'améliorer la discipline et le rendement de sa brigade, pour que le fiancé de Mariana devienne un kolkhozien modèle digne de la main de leur meilleure travailleuse. Klim réussit cette mission, mais alors que Kirill Petrovitch évoque dans son bureau la préparation du mariage, il envoie valser les meubles et se met à hurler que ni Nazar ni aucun autre ne se mettra entre lui et sa bien-aimée. Kirill Petrovitch n'en paraît nullement perturbé, il est prêt à donner sa bénédiction à tous les amoureux pourvu qu'ils soient de parfaits tractoristes. Le film se termine par la scène du grand mariage où tout le monde chante des chansons patriotiques et lève son verre vers le portrait du camarade Staline.
