Synopsis
A.K.A. Serial Killer raconte l'histoire de Norio Nagayama, jeune tueur en série de 19 ans qui avait commis quatre meurtres en des lieux différents. Ce scénario permet à Adachi de mettre en avant la « Théorie du paysage », dont il est un des initiateurs, et qui postule que les paysages, quels qu'ils soient, sont des expressions du pouvoir politique dominant : « Tous les paysages que nous voyons au quotidien, et surtout les beaux paysages reproduits sur carte postale, sont fondamentalement liés à une figure du pouvoir dominant ». Pour le réalisateur, Norio Nagayama aurait donc été influencé par son environnement qui l'aurait transformé en assassin.Actors

Walter Mancini (Nero), an alcoholic reporter, and his wife Eve (Cléry) are on a road trip with a trailer heading back to Los Angeles. Along the way, they pick up a hitch-hiker (Hess) who introduces himself as Adam Konitz. Konitz soon turns out to be a sadistic escapee from an institution for the criminally insane, and he is running from the law after robbing two million dollars with his partners. He takes the couple hostage and orders Eve to head to Mexico. They are soon stopped by two policemen and after Walter attempts to signal them by writing "SOS" on his matchbox, Konitz shoots them both.

A body is discovered on a collective farm during harvesting in 1982. A subsequent search of adjacent woods, authorized by newly installed official, Viktor Burakov, turns up seven more bodies in varying stages of decomposition. Police psychologists review recordings of a man (Robert De Niro), who states his name as Detective David Fisk, the "Poetry Boy" killer. The Poetry Boy earned the moniker for his modus operandi of murdering criminals and leaving short poems with their bodies. Danny O'Brien (Chuck Norris) is a cop who likes to work alone that never waits for his back up. In L.A. he is trying to apprehend the notorious Simon Moon (Jack O'Halloran), also known as The Terror. Simon has been killing women by snapping their necks and taking them to his lair in an abandoned movie theater. O'Brien is attacked by Simon who almost kills him in the struggle. When the killer flees the scene and climbs up a ladder he slips and falls, knocking himself unconscious.
