Add to a movie listA Throw of Dice (Prapancha Pash) is a 1929 silent film by German-born director, Franz Osten, based on an episode from the Indian epic The Mahabharata.
Franz Osten made 19 films in India between 1926 and 1939, and the film formed the final part of a trilogy of Indo-German productions, between Franz Osten and Indian actor-producer Himanshu Rai, the other films being Prem Sanyas (1925) and Shiraz (1928). After a gap, Osten returned to India, and worked with Bombay Talkies formed by Rai. Soon, during the production of Kangan (The Bangle) in 1939, Osten, a member of the Nazi Party, was arrested by British colonial officials and held through to the end of the World War II.
The film has been in the British Film Institute (BFI)’s archives since 1945, though rarely seen. In 2006, the film was digitally restored, in honour of the 60th anniversary of Indian independence, and re-released at the Luminato Festival, Toronto, Canada, on 13 June 2008, with a new orchestral score by British Indian composer, Nitin Sawhney. The United States release occurred on 30 July 2008 during Grant Park Music Festival at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.
Synopsis
The movie is about two kings vying for the love of a hermit's daughter, the beautiful Sunita. The two kings, Ranjit and Sohan share a passion for gambling and decide to play a game of craps to determine who will marry Sunita. Sunita wishes to marry Ranjit. Ranjit loses the game to the nefarious Sohan and as a forfeit becomes his slave. Sunita soon uncovers the truth about Sohan's evil deeds and to escape punishment he hurls himself off a cliff into the rapids below. Ranjit and Sunita are reunited and married.Actors

With the land in anarchy, warring overlords, Arthur Pendragon (Mel Ferrer) and his half-sister Morgan LeFay (Anne Crawford) meet as arranged by the sorcerer Merlin (Felix Aylmer) to discuss how to end the bloodshed. Morgan maintains that as she is the only legitimate offspring of the late king, the throne belongs to her, but Merlin puts the adversaries to a test to determine England's rightful ruler. Merlin leads them to Excalbur, a sword embedded in an anvil, and says that according to legend, whoever can remove the sword shall be England's true sovereign. Morgan's knight champion Modred (Stanley Baker) tries in vain to extract the sword, but Arthur removes it easily. Mordred accuses Merlin of witchcraft, and a hearing is arranged with the Council of Kings at the circle of the stone. After advising Arthur that he must prove himself worthy of the throne by his deeds, Merlin instructs him to return the sword to the stone.

Alan King, dont le père était un officier britannique et la mère une indienne musulmane, est un officier brillant mais aussi un métis, ce qui l'exclut de la bonne société anglaise. L'action se déroule à l'époque de la civilisation de la vallée de l’Indus, au XXIe siècle av. J.-C., dans l'une des plus anciennes villes du monde, Mohenjo Daro. La ville est gouvernée par Maham, le chef du sénat. Malhonnête et très cruel, sa cupidité est sur le point de détruire la cité. Sarman (Hrithik Roshan), un jeune et courageux cultivateur d'indigo, se rend à Mohenjo Daro pour y échanger ses produits au marché. Il tombe alors amoureux de Chaani (Pooja Hegde). Fille d'un chef religieux, il lui a été prédit qu'elle serait à l’origine d’une nouvelle société. À sa naissance, elle a été promise à Moonja (Arunoday Singh), le fils de Maham. À l’issue d'une épreuve de force entre les deux hommes, Sarman va non seulement apprendre sa véritable identité et la raison de son lien fort à Mohenjo Daro mais aussi mettre en place le nouvel ordre, même si cela signifie sacrifier la vieille ville aux mains de la divinité de la rivière.
