Camping Out is a 1919 American short comedy film directed by and starring Fatty Arbuckle. The two-reel film was considered lost until recently. Most of the film has been reconstructed from reels found in the Nederlands Filmmuseum and Cineteca Nazionale storage vaults in Rome in 2002.
Synopsis
A man runs away from his wife's bad cooking, camps out on Santa Catalina Island, and attempts to do his own cooking.Actors

As described in Exhibitors Herald, a film magazine, Dr. Fatty Holepoke (Arbuckle) bets all of his money on a horse and looses it. He becomes entangled in the meshes of a vampire (Mann), but when he hears the voice of "his master" (his wife), he finds himself in a serious predicament. With the assistance of a uniform stolen from a policeman, he manages to get away. He tries his luck again with the horses and wins lots of money. However, when he walks down the street wifie relieves him of all of it and leads him home, even though she is half his size.

A philandering husband's public flirtation with a beautiful girl—and the resulting brawl with the woman's boyfriend—are captured by a newsreel cameraman. As summarized in a magazine, Fatty (Arbuckle) meets Winnie (Westover) after rescuing her father Frank (St. John) from a well at their farm and is smitten with her. Fatty is dismissed and leaves, however, as Frank wants Winnie to marry Al Clove (St. John). Fatty returns to the farm in the disguise of a hired girl so that he can be near his beloved, but finds he must fend off the flirtations of her father Frank. Winnie's marriage is all arranged, but at the dress rehearsal the groom is missing, so the "hired girl" takes his place and goes through the practice ceremony, word for word, with the bride. When the wedding day arrives, the ceremony is broken up when Fatty and Winnie announce that they have already been married as the rehearsal was the real thing.

Fatty est le chef-cuisinier d'un restaurant dont Buster Keaton est le serveur. Un grand classique de situation dans les comédies burlesques et l'occasion pour Roscoe de montrer sa dextérité à jongler avec les plats et les couteaux et reprend des gags de Fatty boucher ou Fatty chez lui. Une longue scène du film est une parodie de la danse de Salomé. L'irruption du truand Al St John venu faire la caisse est le prétexte à une bagarre et Luke finira par y mettre bon ordre. Ces deux personnages sont les protagonistes d'une course-poursuite qui se déroule en parallèle de la comédie elle-même pour la rejoindre au moment du dénouement. On retrouve nos personnages lors d'un repas pris à l'office à la fin du service et le film se termine par le repos de l'après-midi que Fatty consacre à la pêche non loin d'un parc d'attraction où se trouvent Alice Lake et Buster Keaton. La fin du film est difficile à suivre car le film est fragmenté et incomplet.
