Le Comte Ugolino (titre original : Il conte Ugolino) est un film italien réalisé en 1908 par Giovanni Pastrone.
Ce film muet en noir et blanc est l'adaptation cinématographique de la vie du comte Ugolin della Gherardesca, passé à la postérité pour avoir servi de modèle au héros damné de la Divine Comédie de Dante ; emprisonné avec ses quatre fils et condamné à mourir de faim, Ugolin essaye alors de se soustraire à son sort en dévorant ses propres enfants.

Inspiré des illustrations de Gustave Doré, le film a été restauré. A cette occasion, le groupe Tangerine Dream a composé une nouvelle musique de film. Dans le film, Dante, accompagné par le poète, Virgile l'enfer et le purgatoire visite. L'iconographie développée par des cinéastes est basée sur des illustrations de Gustave Doré pour une édition du poème, la création d'un film plein de démons, des bêtes, le feu et de soufre, où Dante et Virgile sont de trouver un grand nombre de caractères dans l'histoire du monde et de ses contemporains. Pour ceux qui connaissent le film de Pier Paolo Pasolini, va réaliser les nombreuses références qui fait de ce film de 1911.

FIRST EPISODE Batto and his little daughter Cabiria live in a lavish estate in the shadow of Mount Etna at Catana on the island of Sicily. Cabiria, plays with dolls with her nurse Croessa. When the volcanic Etna erupts violently, Batto prays to the god Pluto for deliverance, but receives only a brief respite before his home and gardens are destroyed. While attempting to escape, servants discover a secret stairway leading underground. Taking advantage of the chaos and plundering Batto’s hidden treasure, the servants, along with Croessa and Cabiria, flee to the countryside. Batto and his wife mourn the loss of Cabiria, as they believe her to be buried beneath the rubble.
