Dil Aashna Hai (Hindi: दिल आशना है, Urdu: دِل آشنا ہے‎, translation: the heart knows the truth) is a Hindustani film which was directed by Hema Malini and released in 1992. It stars Shah Rukh Khan and Divya Bharti in the lead roles along with Jeetendra, Dimple Kapadia, Amrita Singh, Sonu Walia, and Kabir Bedi. Mithun Chakraborty has a special appearance.

Synopsis

Laila (Divya Bharti), brought up in a brothel, is a cabaret dancer in Digvijay Singh's (Kabir Bedi) five-star hotel. One day, Laila receives a phone call from her mother who is just about to die and tells her a shocking news that she was not her real mother, and that Laila was an adopted child.

Aarti Verma (Rekha) is a widow with two children. She is an unattractive woman with a large birthmark on her face. Although Nandini loves Aarti, she is intensely in love with Sanjay, and after he requests her to help him, she finally agrees to help him rob Aarti of her wealth.

The beginning of the film is set in 1951 in a small village of Idar in Sabarkantha district, northern Gujarat, a young man named Gurukant "Guru" Desai (Abhishek Bachchan) dreams of making it big some day. Gurukant decides to go to Turkey and enter the spice trade; later, he is promoted but refuses the job, as he wants to work for himself. Along with Sujata and her brother Jignesh (Arya Babbar), Guru migrates to Bombay and starts trading in cloth. Gradually, he expands his business and sets up manufacturing units of his own, under the name "Shakti Corporation".
