Gopura Vasalile (In Tamil கோபுர வாசலிலே) is a 1991 Indian Tamil black comedy film directed by Priyadarshan in his directional debut in Tamil cinema and was produced by Mu. Ka. Thamizharasu. The film features Karthik and Bhanupriya in the lead with Suchitra, Nassar, Janagaraj, Charle and Junior Balaiya forms an ensemble cast while V. K. Ramasamy, Sukumari and Poornam Vishwanathan appearing in supporting roles.

Malayalam actor Mohanlal made a special appearance in a song. Music by Ilaiyaraja while the cinematography by P. C. Sreeram.

The story of the film borrows some subplots from the Malayalam film Pavam Pavam Rajakumaran. The film is one of the earliest examples of black humour in Tamil cinema. The film was well received at the box office and ran more than 100 days at many centres in Tamil Nadu.

Synopsis

Karthik is a schoolteacher in a local town. He is a bachelor living along with his friends, Nassar, Junior Balaiya and Charlie. Karthik has had a troubled love-life, having lost his lover, Suchitra in a car accident. His friends are wastrels who roam about the town, flirting with the local girls. During one such dalliance with an army officer, VK Ramaswamy's daughter, Bhanupriya, they are put behind the bars for a few days. Karthik also gets peeved with their behaviour and reprimands them for their uncouth behaviour.

Anjali (Keerthi Suresh), has a recent shocking history of her twin sister Geetha (Keerthi Suresh) committing suicide. She is already betrothed to Anoop (Nishan) from a prominent family. But when her mother suddenly falls down from the staircase ending up in paralysis, Anjali and Anoop proceed to her Arackal house. Once they reach there, they are into more mysteries as the spirit of Geetha starts to haunt Anjali, which even physically disturbs her. Within days from a series of horrifying incidents arrives Dr. Sunny Joseph (Mohanlal) with his style of wit and wisdom, to treat Anjali and to help her out of the crisis that she is in. He finds the shocking truth that Anjali is actually Geetha. Geetha had a criminal nature by birth. She accidentally killed Anjali during an argument,to not loose Anoop from her. Geetha tries to kill Anoop when he rejected her upon knowing the truth. However , in the end, Anjali's spirit prevent Geetha from shooting Anoop. Geetha is killed by the fire in the house. The film shows Anjali's spirit over Geetha while she is dying.

In California, the Republican party governor candidate John Kory (Sean James Sutton) is striving to raise his dismal ratings. Sunny Kurishingal (Vijay Babu), the chief campaign officer of John Kory, is failing with his campaign strategies and runs out of ideas to ensure Kory's victory. Sunny is forced to consult a third person's advise and calls Francis Kunjappan (Mukesh), a PWD minister and his native friend in Kerala, for hiring any good political consultant for devising campaign strategies. Kunjappan, initially reluctant, later recommends his friend and political competitor Jagannathan (Mohanlal), thus also hoping to get rid of him as he is a political threat to his ministerial position. Jagannathan, a young politician and a sports enthusiastic, is illiterate in English but has an inborn talent to solve the gravest of issues in the most prudent manner. Even Francis had consulted him for solving his toughest problems. But Francis thinks that Jaganathan’s unorthodox ideas will fail miserably in the US. Kunjappan meets Jagannathan and offers him the job and a remuneration of ₹30 crores which is sufficient to raise Jagannathan's dream project, a sports academy in Kerala. Jagannathan takes up the assignment and flies to the US, together with his assistants Pottakuzhi Jabbar (Baburaj) and Vayalar Varkey (Aju Varghese).

Professor Kurian Fernandez (Nedumudi Venu), a convict escapes from jail, along with Raghu (Ganesh Kumar), his cell mate. After a failed attempt to chase and nab the duo, the officials draws out several plans to capture both. Police authorities strongly feel that Fernandez will land up in Banglore and may try to meet up with his only daughter. Unnikrishnan (Mohanlal) and K.Purushothaman Nair (Jagadish), two inspectors from Kerala police are sent to Bangalore to follow the activities of Gaadha (Girija Shettar), daughter of Fernandez. Upon reaching Bangalore, Unnikrishnan meets Peter (Mukesh), his college mate, who is also now an inspector with Karnataka police. Unnikrishnan and Peter makes up a team and sidelines Purushothaman Nair, who struggles hard to cope up with Kannada language. The police team stays at a room just opposite to where Gaadha stays as a paying guests. Gaadha, working at an advertisement agency as a copy writer is staying along with Maggie Aunty (Sukumari), who is constantly in fight with her son (Kuthiravattom Pappu). Unnikrishnan and Peter, who are born flirts, are more interested in drinking and playing cards than investigation. K.P.Nair tries to report this to the authorities, but fails in getting both in control. Unnikrishnan slowly develops a crush towards Gaadha, which gets transformed into a full-fledged passion, but Gaadha never accepts it. Unni befriends with Maggie aunty and tries all ways to woo Gaadha. Meanwhile, Unni and Peter finds out that Fernandez is in the city and is constantly in touch with Gaadha. The police commissioner (M. G. Soman) is in all efforts to nab Fernandez. Unnikrishnan decides to use Gaadha to reach out Fernandez. Gaadha reveals to Unni about the past of Fernandez, when he was a college professor, who was loved and cared by the students. The sincere professor questioned the college authorities on many administration malpractices, which made him a dust in their eyes. The son of the police commissioner was punished by professor, which led to serious fracas in college and authorities were forced to take action on him under severe protests from students. In retaliation, he attacked professor while traveling with a female student. The girl was raped and killed and the professor was falsely convicted in the case. Now, professor is out of jail to avenge on it. Unnikrishnan tries to convince professor with the help of Gaadha, but he fails to give up. Meanwhile, an old man, who is a client of the ad agency, where Gaadha works, likes her and asks her to join him as his secretary abroad. Gaadha, who had by then developed a soft feeling towards Unni lets him to bring his mother (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) to see her. At the same time, Professor succeeds in killing the son of the commissioner. He orders a shoot at sight at Fernandez. Professor goes berserk and loses mental stability and decides to plant a bomb at the city stadium, which might kill hundreds of civilians. Unnikrishnan asks Gaadha to make him give up this heinous plan, but he refuses. That evening, Fernandez plants a bomb, but police team under Unnikrishnan corners him and takes him to the tower. Professor, despite repeated requests denies to explain how defuse the bomb. But Unnikrishnan successfully defuses the bomb, thereby saving the lives of hundreds. But Gaadha, who actually wanted to join with Unni, couldn't join with him and decides to go with the old man to London. The film ends with both the cars with Gaadha and Unni stopping at a junction, when the signal turns green, they move to opposite roads.

After Nadodikkattu and Pattanapravesham, CIDs Ramdas and Vijayan are back for another wacky adventure. When a priceless gold crown is stolen from India, Ramdas (Mohanlal) and Vijayan (Sreenivasan) are sent to the United States to retrieve it. The only clue they have is a pseudonym ("Paul Barber") and a piece of a torn shirt. In the States, the two remain as helpless and clueless as they were in the two prequel films and realize that this is their toughest case yet. They search for Paul Barber, the real criminal, but in vain. They finally by luck retrieve the crown and all the criminals are killed in a comic shoot out between them and the CIDs. And in the end they return to India as heroes.

The train No.20 Madras Mail to Madras starts from Trivandrum Central. R.K. Nair (M.G. Soman), a Kollam-based businessman takes the first class coupe of the train to Madras with his wife Geetha (Jayabharathi) and daughter Devi (Suchitra) from Kollam Junction. Tony Kurushingal (Mohanlal), along with his friends Hitchcock Kanjikuzhi (Manianpilla Raju) and Kumbalam Hari (Jagadish) boards the same coach from Kottayam. Tony is the son of a wealthy businessman, Kurishinkal Kariyachan (Jagannatha Varma), Kanjikuzhi is a detective novelist and Hari is an young politician. The three of them are going to Madras for seeing a cricket match and to make attempts to make Kanjikuzhi's novel Vaazhikuzhiyile Kolapathakam a film. All the three are heavily drunken while boarding the train. After entering the train and seeing Devi, Tony and friends make several attempts in getting a seat for Tony in the same coupe of Devi, with the help of TTE officer Nadar (Innocent) but with little success. While doing so Tony gets into heated arguments with RK Nair and Sunil (Ashokan), who has a reserved seat in the same coupe (from Ernakulam) as that of R.K. Nair. Actor Mammootty boards the train from Thrissur and gets into the same coach. Nadar leaves the train at Palakkad after giving company with Tony and gang and the new TTE Chokalingam a.k.a. Choki (Jagathy Sreekumar) enters the train. Tony and his friends visit Mammootty in his coupe and soon become friends with him. Meanwhile Tony tries to flirt with Devi while she returns from the toilet, which causes Tony to land in trouble with R.K Nair but Mammootty cools the scene. All goes to sleep late night.

Harikrishnan (Mohanlal), an immigrant in Mumbai, who like many thousands of immigrants is busy struggling to make ends meet. He shares a room with a group of Malayali guys, who too have their own personal problems and difficulties. Swami Amritananda (Mohanlal) arrives in Kerala on a mission to bring peace at the state, which is burning with communal riots. Sawimiji, who is worshiped and respected all over the world, receives death threats from different corners. Lakshmi (Revathi), the district collector, is assigned to look after Swamiji's security. She warns Swamiji about the tensed situation and the dangers waiting him outside. The presence of Lakshmi, who had been the lover of Samiji in his past, brings back old memories to him.
