Guru Paarvai is a 1998 Tamil thriller film directed by Manoj Kumar who earlier directed Vandicholai Chinnarasu with Sathyaraj. The film features Prakash Raj, Kushboo and Anju Aravind in lead roles. The film, produced by Manoj Kumar and N. J. Mothy, had musical score by Deva and was released on 15 August 1998 to positive reviews. The film was dubbed in Hindi as Naya Natwarlal, it was remade in Telugu as Veedu Samanyudu Kadhu starring Prakash Raj, reprising his role from the original, and in Hindi as Bhairav with Mithun Chakraborty.

Synopsis

The film begins with Gurumurthy (Prakash Raj) who follows Pooja (Easwari Rao) like a mental. Gurumurthy claims to be Mahendra Boopathy in his past life and he was in love with Alamelu. According to him, Pooja looks like his lover Alamelu and Gurumurthy finally seduces her. They decide to get married but the day before their wedding, he foists prostitution charges on her and she is arrested.

Rathi (Kushboo), a music video director, lives with her husband Ravi (Nassar) and their two kids. However, she is unaware that her husband Ravi is in fact a robber. He carries out smart crimes with his partner Sabesan (Prakash Raj). The police officer Dev (Thalaivasal Vijay) is pressured to arrest them. After a diamond heist which gone wrong, Ravi finally gets caught while Sabesan escapes. Ravi managed to hide the diamonds in his house before being hauled off by the police. During the police custody, Ravi is shot by Dev, injuring him heavily. So Ravi is moved to the hospital and the doctors eventually saves his life. Thereafter, Sabesan goes to his ward and he questions Ravi about the diamonds. Sabesan even killed his partner to leave oneself a way out. Sabesan is now urged to find the diamonds and enters Rathi's household as Ravi's friend. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

Kasi is a tale about the deception of appearances. Kasi(Vikram) is a blind poet and singer who supports his family by his songs. He has an older brother Sevalai(Thalaivasal Vijay) who spends what money he has drinking, an abusive, crippled father and a younger sister Lakshmi(Kavya Madhavan). When the local landlord, Raghupathi(Rajeev) returns to the district, he brings along with him Mr Dinesh, the CM's son and his wife Radhika(Aishwarya). Raghupathi has a reputation as a God in the area because of his charitable works and when a specialist eye doctor arrives he promises to pay the fees for an operation to give back Kasi's vision. Elated by this news, Kasi learns that he has to find an eye-donor and his girlfriend Kaveri(Kaveri), who cannot speak, offers one of her eyes. Unfortunately, something happens that shows that the 'God-like' Raghupathi and Mr Dinesh are not what they seem. Blissfully unaware of the sadness of those around him, Kasi looks forward to his operation.

Jeevanandhan "Jeeva" (Vijay) is a very rich young man. Although his parents (Sivakumar and Srividhya) want him to settle down, he goes to another city to do his MBA and stays with friends.
