Synopsis
Harry England (Michael Crawford), a British car salesman on a trip to France, meets a Baroness "Danny" (Genevieve Gilles) when her Rolls-Royce breaks down. They spend a few days together and become lovers before she disappears one night, but Harry does not know her surname.Actors

A young American secretary, Maria Williams (Maggie McNamara), arrives in Rome and is greeted by Anita Hutchins (Jean Peters), the woman she is replacing at the United States Distribution Agency. They drive to the "Villa Eden" Anita shares with Miss Frances (Dorothy McGuire), the longtime secretary of the American author John Frederick Shadwell (Clifton Webb), an expatriate living in Rome for the past fifteen years. On their way into town, the three women stop at the famous Trevi Fountain. Frances and Anita tell Maria that according to legend, if she throws a coin in the fountain and makes a wish to return to Rome, she will. Maria and Francis throw in their coins, but Anita, who is returning to the United States to marry, declines.

De son côté, Marcel demande le divorce. Plus tard, Eve et Lamar passent leur lune de miel sur la Côte d'Azur, Lamar étant l'invité d'une conférence internationale. Annie rencontre Marcel, qui est lui aussi sur la Côte d'Azur, et ils dînent ensemble. Lorsque Lamar quitte Eve et revient à Paris, il trouve sa clinique en plein chaos du fait de l'absence d'Annie. Pour la première fois, il dit à une cliente de retourner à son mari comme elle est. Eve se marie finalement avec Rolando, un homme amoureux de son apparence. Ellen Arden (Monroe), a photographer and mother of two small children, has been declared legally dead, having been lost at sea in the Pacific. Her husband Nick (Dean Martin) has remarried; he and his new wife, Bianca (Cyd Charisse), are on their honeymoon when Ellen, rescued from an island where she has been stranded for five years, returns home. The family dog remembers her, but the children do not. However, they take a liking to her, and invite her to stay. Ellen assumes a foreign accent and pretends to be a woman named Ingrid Tic. Nick, flustered by the revelation that he's now married to two women, makes great effort to keep the truth from his new wife all the while trying to quash her amorous advances. Upon learning that Ellen was marooned on the island with a man, Stephen Burkett (Tom Tryon) — whom she knew as "Adam" to her "Eve" — he becomes jealous and suspicious of her fidelity. To calm his fears, Ellen enlists a meek shoe salesman (Wally Cox) to impersonate her island companion.
