Synopsis
Fuyant son père et sa famille entière parce que ces derniers n'ont pas voulu accepter la relation amoureuse improbable qu'elle entretient avec un simple commis, Otsuya trouve refuge chez un ami, le dénommé Gonji. La jeune femme et son amant vont alors connaître les pires mésaventures qui soient : Gonji tentera en effet d'abuser d'Otsuya et de faire assassiner le naïf apprenti. Dans le même temps le prétendu ami de la famille empochera l'argent donné par les parents pour rechercher Otsuya et pour finir vendra Otsuya à une maison de geishas pour une belle somme d'argent. Otsuya humiliée, restera toujours rebelle et revendicative. Mais surtout, à partir du jour où un mystérieux tatoueur lui gravera une araignée dévoreuse à même le dos, Otsuya se révélera être une véritable prêtresse vengeresse et le plus bel ange exterminateur qui soit.Actors

Five female sex workers are employed at Dreamland, a licensed brothel near the Sensōji（浅草寺）Temple in Tokyo's Yoshiwara district. As the Diet considers a ban on prostitution, the women's daily dramas play out. Each has dreams and motivations. Hanae is married, her husband unemployed; they have a young child. Yumeko, a widow, uses her earnings to raise and support her son, who's now old enough to work and care for her. The aging Yorie has a man who wants to marry her. Yasumi saves money diligently to pay her debt and get out; she also has a suitor who wants to marry her, but she has other plans for him. Mickey seems the most devil-may-care, until her father comes from Kobe to bring her news of her family and ask her to come home.

Sakura Nishi is a Japanese nurse in China during the Sino-Japanese war. Initially she works in a ward of chronically ill men. She is raped by a patient, Sakamoto. She reports the rape and Sakamoto is sent to the front lines. Nishi is sent to a field hospital. The hospital is overwhelmed and has too few doctors and medicine to treat all the patients. Nishi works with Doctor Okabe. Sakamoto comes in, shot in the belly and dying. Okabe refuses to treat him, but Nishi pleads with him. Okabe tries to save Sakamoto on condition that Nishi will come to his room that night. Sakamoto dies, but Nishi goes to Okabe's room. However, Okabe just wants to talk to Nishi and drink his French wine with her. He asks her to inject him with morphine then sleeps. Nishi takes pity on a man who has lost his arms, and forms a sexual relationship with him. The man then commits suicide.

This is a series of three stories revolving around women. The first story is about a young woman who works in a Tokyo nightclub. She has what seems like a good plan for a strong financial future; she is investing in a company on the one hand, and on the other, taking action to snare the son of the company's owner in marriage. In the second story, a young woman is employed by a real estate agent in order to convince male clients to invest in worthless property, usually by bathing with them. The last story is about a widowed geisha who has no financial worries. But when she falls in love with a forger, she opts to wait for him after he is sent to prison. This causes trouble for her in family and society, but she ignores them despite the pressure.
