Kalabha Kadhalan is a 2006 Tamil romantic thriller directed by debutant Igore, starring Arya and Renuka Menon. This film was a low-budget production and the soundtrack was composed by Niru. Akshaya also appeared in this family based psycho thriller. It enjoyed relatively quiet success. It shared a similar storyline to a great thriller S.J. Suryah’s Vaali and another 2006 film called Uyir. The film’s censors demanded it an "Adults Only" rating.
A sister in law (Akshaya) falls in love with her brother in law Akhilan (Arya). But he refuses her because he adores his wife (Renuka Menon) and he never would cheat on her. He hides all facts to his wife in order to protect her. Finally the sister in law commits suicide after a tragedy that becomes the climax of the film.

The movie begins with Ajith, a driving instructor leading a happy life with his mother Sujatha. She hides from him the truth that his father, Nizhalgal Ravi, was murdered by a dadha, Babu Anthony. The mother much against the boy’s wish packs off Ajith’s twin brother with a family who offer to adopt him, who had been witness to the murderer from a close quarter, to a distant town. The film begins at a fishing hamlet in Tamil Nadu where an elderly Rajashekar (Sarath Kumar) is worshipped as "God Father" by many. His amiable ways of living won him many friends. His son Vettrivel (younger Sarath Kumar) is an acclaimed scientist. He is received with gusto by the whole village after he returns winning awards from Central government. Unfortunately a glance at a vernacular on a new report on Malaysia shocks Rajashekar, who immediately develops cardiac arrest and dies. Vettrivel comes to know about the incident and decides to unravel the mystery behind his death. He sets off to Malaysia. Vettrivel gets acquainted with a local reporter Inba (Farzana), who falls for Vettrivel. With her help, he finds find out a disturbing truth about his father’s life. Rajashekar is former police officer in Malaysia who falls to the conspiracy of a baddie and arrested for no fault of his. Rajashekar eventually pays the price for being honest by losing his family and settles down in Tamil Nadu with his young son.

The film details the life of Periyar right from a childhood to his marriage to Nagammal to his pilgrimage to Kashi which changed his life where he understands the cruelty of the Hindu Caste System that only Brahmins are welcomed and he was refused meals at choultries which exclusively fed Brahmins forbidding other Hindu castes. Having starved severely, Periyar found no other better way than to enter a choultry disguises himself with the appearance of a Brahmin wearing a thread on his bare chest but it is found out and is disgusted with life in Kashi. Periyar returns and joins his father's business and later becomes the Chairman of the Erode Municipality. Later, which he resigns from this post and joins the freedom struggle. He becomes the President of Congress party of Madras Presidency. Later he quits the Congress party and joins the Justice Party. He goes on to format the DK. His role in the Anti-Hindi agitation and Vaikom struggle. His second marriage and the formation of the DMK. It covers his entire life till death.
