Synopsis
Madhu aka Madhavan (Jayaram) is a successful playback singer. Chandramathi (Urvashi) is his illiterate, rustic, betel-chewing wife with a bad habit of spitting in wrong places, and they have four children. It can be described as incompatible matrimony but still a happy one. Madhu loves his wife even though they are out of sync because she has brought him luck. Here enters Lekha (Mamta Mohandas), a sophisticated urban model-cum-singer, who finds a place in the hearts of all the family members. Chandramathi thinks Lekha will be the perfect wife for her husband and a good mother for her children. How she goes about her plans of uniting Madhu and Lekha forms the rest of the story.Actors

Sanjeev (Jayaram) is a police officer who lives with his widowed father and two younger sisters, after death of his mother. The plot revolves around the life in a typical, Malayali household- consisting of four brothers- Nandakumar- A Hindi teacher in the local school, Gopakumar- A medical representative, Krishnakumar- A court office clerk and Chandrakumar- a college student (also the youngest), in order of their age. The first three brothers are married to- Kausalya, Indumati, Anandam, 3 naiive, and shallow wives who adore their husbands dearly and whom the husbands equally love. The family is headed by their father, Munshi Parameshwaran Pillai, a veteran Gandhian teacher respected by everyone in their village, who also homeschools his grandchildren. The youngest brother Chandrakumar is in love with his to-be engaged fiancée, Asha, his cousin. Their relationship is oppressed by the family members because of a small feud between them. But otherwise, the household is a happy, peaceful and satisfied one until the arrival of their new neighbor- an irresistibly charming and beautiful South Indian heroine- Yamuna Rani. This turns the household upside down and sends the ladies into a frenzy. The ladies in order to please the superstar, glamourizes themselves, their husbands and the house. Thus, they form a formidable friendship with Yamuna Rani. Soon, trouble starts to brew, when the loan, with which they bought their new household items in order to impress Yamuna Rani, needs to be paid back to the moneylender. The trouble further escalates when the ladies, each, receive a letter from an anonymous identity, which claims that one of the three men are having an extramarital affair with Yamuna Rani.

The film tells the story of a rich orphan - Apputtan, a generous and liberal man. He helps settle the financial woes of people in the village. He is attracted to a girl whose education he has been sponsoring. But her response to his love after becoming a doctor at his expense, was something Apputtan had least expected. As Apputtan has studied only up to high school, she treats him like an illiterate. The film ends well with the girl developing interest towards Apputtan.

Mahadevan (Jayaram) and Kumaran (Janardhanan) work in a small firm and are room mates renting from Janakiamma (Meena). One day, luck comes to them when Mahadevan wins a car as the first prize of a promotional contest held by a washing-powder brand. Meanwhile, a murderer, Ambrose (Abu Salim) is after Maya. By mistake, both the murderer and Mahadevan get the same tag number on their cars' license plates. The murderers try a hit-and-run attack on Maya, but she escapes. She thinks that Mahadevan who did it. Mahadevan gets arrested by sub-inspector Cherian (Kalabhavan Mani) according to Maya's complaint. But due to lack of proper evidence, he's released with a warning. After getting through problems one after another, Mahadevan finds the real killers and their car. He tells Maya about the killers who attempted for her life. Shockingly it is revealed that one of the killers is Maya's Vishnu who is after her wealth. Vishnu tries to kill Maya, but Mahadevan stops him. In an attempt to kill Mahadevan and Maya, Vishnu dies by falling on a sharp object. In an attempt to dump his body, the couple is stopped by Vishnu's accomplice, Ambrose. He's enraged by his friend's death and tries to kill Mahadevan and Maya. But ends up at the dead end of the road, where the cops were waiting for him with an armed force. The car catches fire from the gunshots and explodes, killing him. The film ends with sub-inspector Cherian thanking Mahadevan and Maya, for their help and support.

Appu (Jayaram) and Maya (Manju Warrier) were childhood sweethearts, and their parents had agreed to their marriage. Appu is treated by Maya's father as his own son and this makes her uncle jealous of him. Maya's mother belongs a branch of local royal family. However, Maya's life turns upside down when she is identified as the heir to her mother's royal family after her horoscope matched with the qualities that the royal family was looking for. The Maharaja proposed to adopt her as heir princess to continue the lineage. In meantime, the real Veerandra Varma (Biju Menon) came to the Palace, on a mission to steal the royal crown. Veerendran Varma was a spoil brat and was a famous rouge in Delhi, earning him the title as Dilliwala Rajakumaran.
