It was written by Juliet Snowden and White, who previously together wrote The Possession. Starring Olivia Cooke, Daren Kagasoff, Douglas Smith, and Bianca A. Santos, Ouija was released on October 24, 2014. Ouija is the first horror film adaptation of a toy property from Hasbro, which owns the Ouija board commercial trademark. The film was produced by Platinum Dunes, Blumhouse Productions and Hasbro. Despite receiving negative reviews, the film was a box office success, grossing over $102 million on a $5 million budget.
A sequel is set for release on October 21, 2016.
Synopsis

A student attends the class of college professor Coupland, who wishes to prove that the supernatural does not exist. Coupland shows a video of a possessed boy and explains that research will be done to find a cure for this kind of disease. One of his students, Brian McNeil, is invited to film the experiment process and joins Coupland, his two assistants Krissi and Harry, and their subject Jane Harper, a young woman who generates strange phenomena and has been abandoned. Jane is generally kept locked in a room with loud rock music playing during the daytime to prevent her from sleeping in the hopes that the psychological agitation will result in increased activity.

Bianca (Mae Whitman) is enjoying her senior year of high school with two close friends Jess (Skyler Samuels) and Casey (Bianca Santos) who are significantly more popular than she is. She is also the neighbor and former childhood friend of Wesley "Wes" Rush (Robbie Amell), a star on the school's football team, with whom she has fallen out during high school. She has a crush on guitar-playing Toby Tucker (Nick Eversman), and reluctantly attends a party hosted by mean-girl Madison Morgan (Bella Thorne), hoping to talk to him. Two years after Chucky was burned to a crisp and shot in the heart by detective Mike Norris, the killer "Good Guys" doll (voiced by Brad Dourif) is rebuilt from scratch by the Play Pals doll company to prove there is no fault with the dolls. In an old Hollywood mansion, the spirit of a butler inhabits a grandfather clock. Getting ready for dinner one night, Jamie Ashen and his wife Lisa receive a mysterious ventriloquist doll named "Billy", in an unmarked package. Wondering who sent the doll, Lisa recalls a poem about a woman named Mary Shaw. Jamie disregards this and leaves to get dinner. After Lisa plays around with Billy, all the sounds disappear and something attacks Lisa. When Jamie arrives with their dinner, he hears Lisa call him into the bedroom, but becomes confused when he notices blood all over the floor. Jamie finds Lisa in their bed, dead with her tongue ripped out, and Billy lying near her body. Detective Jim Lipton brings Jamie in for questioning of the murder of his wife, but releases him due to lack of evidence. While ripping the lining of the box Billy came in, Jamie discovers that Billy belonged to Mary Shaw, a ventriloquist from his hometown of Ravens Fair.
