One of the most respected inspectors, Arjun Joglekar (Mukesh Khanna) is killed by drug dealer and gangster Goli (Shakti Kapoor). The movie is about the relationship between India and Pakistan. The governments of India and Pakistan have launched, "Project Milaap", where both the governments will release the POWs from the previous wars. Raghavan (Sunil Shetty), a deranged ex-army man-turned-militant does not want the peaceful operation to turn to reality and makes an attempt on Gen. Amarjeet Bakshi (Kabir Bedi)'s life. While trying to rescue Gen. Bakshi , Brigadier Shekhar Sharma (Naseeruddin Shah) falls prey to a stray bullet. While on deathbed he confesses to his son Major Ram Prasad Sharma (Shahrukh Khan) that his wife and son had left him many years ago due to his infidelity. He tells Ram his last wish: his family be reunited under one roof, and dies. Meanwhile, Gen. Bakshi tells Ram that his teenage daughter Sanjana's life is in danger, and asks him to go undercover to Darjeeling and pose as a student in Sanjana's class in front of her own eyes. As the fate would have it, Ram learns that his younger brother Laxman "Lucky" (Zayed Khan) is studying at the same college. So Maj. Ram starts off on his dual mission: personal and national. While at the college he falls in love the new chemistry teacher but, keeps making a fool of himself when singing. He meets Sanju (Amrita Rao), who has a very hard time impressing Lucky since she has a crush on him. Since one of the aims of the mission is to provide protection to Sanju, he tries getting close to her but she has only one thing on her mind, impressing Lucky. Sanju is constantly being irritated by Ram because of his attempts at friendship and she eventually complains to Lucky about him. Since he is the coolest guy on campus and Ram is the uncle type they don't get along at all. Lucky, being the mischievous guy he is, ends up in a competition of getting to the roof of the school and in a sudden turn of events ends up hanging from the roof. Ram saves him. This causes all barriers to collapse between them and they become best of friends. Automatically, Sanju also gets close to Ram. Soon thereafter, Ms. Sharma (Kirron Kher), Lucky's mother, advertises for a paying guest in their house in order to make ends meet and thus Maj. Ram ends up in their house. Sanju soon starts wearing new kinds of clothes after visiting Ms. Chandini (Sushmita Sen) the chemistry teacher, along with Ram.Soon, when Ram expresses his feelings to Ms. Chandini, she tells him she feels the same way but they can't be together because she was older than him. In addition, Lucky falls in love with Sanju because of her new look. Lucky and, Ms.Sharma find out that Ram is actually Shekar's son and kicks him out of their house when he is about explain. Ram discovers Raghavan has kidnapped Sanjana.Raghavan and Ram have a deadly fight. But, surprisingly Ram wins the fight even though he is wounded by a bullet shot inflicted by Raghavan. Later it shows everybody at college having a party. There it is revealed that it was Ram's graduation party. It shows Lucky and Sanju expressing their feelings to each other.

Anu Malhotra and Siddharth Mishra (Sidhu) are in love with each other and would like to get married. Anu is ready to inform her parents about her future life-partner, but everything is put on hold, as the family decides to go out on a group safari-like expedition. Siddharth decides to go incognito also. The group gets to view wildlife from fairly close distances. Tragedy strikes when the group (except Sidhu) is kidnapped by the Bandit Durga Narayan Choudhary and his gang. The bandits commit atrocities on the kidnapped people and finally behead one of the women in order to terrorize the government and extract ransom as well as release of one of their men who is in police custody. Once their demands are met, the bandits release remaining hostages, except Anu, whom the chief Durga Narayan Choudhary has started liking. This is unacceptable by his girlfriend Bali, the only female bandit of the gang. When Sidhu not find Anu among the released hostages, he sends the illegal arms supplier Dorai to request Durga Narayan Choudhary for Anu's release. He secretly follows Dorai and finally reaches Anu. In the ensuing commotion, he is able to run away with her, with the bandits in their pursuit. They keep searching their way out of the dense forest. Meanwhile the goons started to reduce in numbers as they get shot one by one during repeated police encounters. Finally, Durga is the only one left. Still mad about Anu, he searches for her. He is about to take Anu away once more but is intercepted by Commander Shivraj, whom he eventually murders, but finally Sidhu kills Durga and re-unites with Anu and the movie ends on a happy note.

LOC Kargil opens with a dramatic shot of an Indian soldier's wireless set chirping frantic commands from one of the army bases, calling a patrol to report in, while the radio operator lies dead in the snow. After frantic attempts from battalions to locate their lost patrols, the Indian Army HQ in Jammu and Kashmir decides to deploy more troops. They suffer a rude shock when company and even battalion-sized attacks are beaten back by the largely unknown enemy sitting on top of the steep and treacherous peaks surrounding Kargil, Mushkoh Valley, Drass, Batalik and the Kaksar sectors. After these terrible and surprising reverses, the decision is taken to go ahead with maximum mobilisation and move its best fighting units into the area of operations.

After acquiring the possession of the company owned by Vishwanath Sharma (Anant Mahadevan) using trickery, Madan Chopra (Dalip Tahil) dismisses Vishwanath from the company to exact a revenge on the latter, leaving the Sharma household to undergo distress and illness which claims the lives of Vishwanath and his little daughter.
