Raamanam (Malayalam: രാമാനം, English: Night Sky) is a 2009 Malayalam film directed and produced by M. P. Sukumaran Nair. Jagathy Sreekumar plays the lead character in this film. The film is a re-depiction of Smarakasilakal (Memorial Stones), a celebrated Malayalam novel by Punathil Kunhabdulla.

Synopsis

A progressive thinking man, Pookoya Thangal (Jagathy Sreekumar) does not believe in the caste system or creed. One day a woman named Neeli was ostracized from the Hindu society because she became pregnant before marriage. Pookoya Thangal gave her a place to stay in his servant's house. Thangal's wife, Aatta Beevi (Margi Sati), was also pregnant.

The story is about four thieves-turned-philanthropists, starting with the time they were thieves, how they meet together by chance and join forces, finally leading to a robbery attempt at a house that went awry but led to their reformation at the hands of the house owner who himself was a robber-turned-philanthropist. The thieves are played by Mukesh, Innocent, Jagathy Sreekumar and Mamukkoya, and philanthropist by Thilakan. The plot also shows how Thilakan spurs them to rob the corrupt rich and give to the poor, in the mold of Robin Hood, portraying two such gutsy episodes; first bringing to book a treacherous money lender Sunny (played by Shivaji) and next an unscrupulous business man and drug-dealer Madhava Menon, played by Babu Namboothiri. The second episode culminates in the murder of an accomplice of Madhava Menon, Dr. Narendran, played by Kollam Thulasi, at the hand of one of the four heroes, but Thilakan owns up this murder so as to exonerate him and let the good work continue.

Kalabha Mazha tells the friendly relationship between a Hindu and a Muslim family. Madhava Menon (Thilakan) who worked in the All India Radio always respects other religions and works for the upliftment of the society. Malavika (Devika) is the eldest daughter of Madhava Menon. She is betrothed to Unnikrishnan (Krishna). She is more than a sister to her two younger siblings, since their mother had died when they were quite young. Menon, is regretful that he hasn't been able to save much money for his children, and the family finds it hard, to make both ends meet, as days pass by. There is a Muslim family staying nearby, headed by Kunjali (Mamukkoya). His son-in-law, on a job in the Middle East, had been missing for about six long years. Malavika's sister, falls for a film director, and soon realizes that her decision was wrong. Her brother on the other hand, takes up a job at a local bank, and finds himself having transformed into a goon. Later, Malavika bumps into her sister's absconding lover, and almost meets with the same fate in his hands.

Thomas alias Thorappan Thoma (Mukesh) and Pathira Thankappan (Sreenivasan) are two petty thieves working under Kottayam Kochunni (Jagathi Sreekumar), a notorious thief wanted by police. One day, to financially support Athapady Anthru (Mamukkoya), his master, Kochunni plans a big robbery at a hotel suite along with his disciples. On the same day, three young sons of Vikraman (Rajan P. Dev), a mafia don arrives in Kochi. K.R (Prathapachandran) his business rival plans to shoot down the children of Vikraman on same night at their hotel suite. But after getting the news, they wait for the killer to enter their room, heavily armed. Both Thorappan Thoma and Pathira Thankappan enters the same suite, and is attacked by them. In a bid to escape both fights back. The commotion leads to chaos and police arrives. Thoma and Thankappan are trialed for killing the sons of Vikraman and is sentenced for five years in jail. Kochunni and Andru escapes from the scene. Two years after the incident, Thankappan gets parole and absconds. Thoma is granted parole, but has been assigned to find out Thankappan in two weeks. Kochunni now runs an automobile shop, where Andru is a worker under him. Thoma arrives at Kochunni's shop in search of money. He is assigned to hand over a car at Chennai. Unknowing that the car belongs to same Vikraman, Thoma sets for Chennai. In the meantime, the elder son of Vikraman is shot dead by KR. Vikraman suspects Thoma for this, who is now in Chennai. Accidentally he happens to meet Thankappan, who is now married and is living under a new name Shambhu Iyer. Both Thankappan and Thoma is now on run from police and Vikraman. Their chase and fight to prove innocence forms the rest of the story.
