Saints and Soldiers is a 2003 religious-themed war drama film directed by Ryan Little and starring Corbin Allred, Alexander Niver, Kirby Heyborne, Lawrence Bagby, and Peter Asle Holden. It is based loosely around events taking place shortly after the Malmedy massacre during the Battle of the Bulge where four U.S. soldiers and a downed British airman need to reach Allied lines to pass on some vital intelligence. The film received mostly positive reviews. Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Creed, released on August 17, 2012, was also directed by Little but has a plot unrelated to the 2003 film. Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Creed is set in the days after D-Day. An example of LDS cinema from Excel Entertainment Group, the third part to the film series, Saints and Soldiers: The Void, was released to theaters on 29 August 2014. The third film deals with the very last days of WWII as American soldiers fight their way through Germany against small pockets of resistance from remnants of the German forces.

Synopsis

The film begins with the Malmedy massacre and the escape of American soldiers from their German captors. During the escape, Corporal 'Deacon' Greer (Corbin Allred) manages to disarm a German soldier but does not shoot him - even at the insistence of medic Gould (Alexander Niver).

Members of the American 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team parachute into Occupied France as part of Operation Dragoon and come under fire, getting separated from their units. Three paratroopers, Sgt. Caleb Jones (David Nibley), T/5. James Rossi (Corbin Allred), and Cpl. Harland "Bud" Curtis (Jasen Wade), meet and begin making their way to their intended drop zone in Les Arcs. Harpooner Ishmael (Corey Sevier) joins Ahab (Danny Glover) and his crew on the Pequod, in this instance an armored land boat that hunts for dragons. The seven-strong crew ostensibly seeks the precious "vitriol", a highly explosive liquid substance found inside the fire-breathing winged creatures, which powers the mythical realm they live in. Ishmael joins their quest, and soon learns that in fact, Ahab's mission is one of revenge on a particular great white dragon that decades ago scarred and injured him, and also killed his sister. Forced to hide from the sunlight due to the burn wounds on his body, Ahab now tries to kill all dragons, and especially the white one. Conflict arises through a romantic entanglement between Ishmael and Ahab's adopted daughter, Rachel (Sofia Pernas), which causes hostility from the jealous hothead Flask (Larry Bagby). In the white dragon's lair, Ahab's secrets are revealed and Rachel must choose between following him on his dark quest or escaping to a new life with Ishmael. She chooses the latter and in a final confrontation, Ahab's spear, which was tied to his foot, becomes entangled in the White Dragon's neck. The creature flies off with a screaming Ahab, until he is slammed against a rock pillar and silenced. The white dragon flies off into the distance, with Ahab's body clinging on to it.

The story of Saladin (Ahmed Mazhar) portrays the title character, ruler of the kingdoms surrounding Jerusalem, during the events of the Third Crusade. The film starts with Jerusalem, which is under the authority of the Christians of Europe, having its Muslim pilgrims slaughtered by the Christians in the holy lands. Saladin upon hearing this news seeks the reclamation of the holy lands in a short, almost impossible campaign. He succeeds in taking back Jerusalem, which leads the powers of Europe to organize the Third Crusade with the combined forces of the French king (Omar El-Hariri) and German emperor under the leadership of Richard the Lionheart of England. Saladin succeeds in preventing the recapture of Jerusalem, and in the end negotiations between himself and Richard (whom Saladin admires as the only honorable infidel leader) leave the Holy Land in Muslim hands.
