Achuvinte Amma is a movie that tells the deep rooted relation between a mother, Vanaja (Uravashi) and a daughter Achu (Meera Jasmine). Vanaja is a street smart LIC agent who has made it on her own. She lives with her only daughter Aswathy alias Achu who holds a diploma in Civil Engineering. Mother and daughter share a special relationship and are like friends. There is nothing that Achu hides from her mother. But the only thing taboo in their life is the talk about her father. Vanaja never speaks about Achu's father and Achu never asks her as she doesn't want to hurt her beloved mother.

Bhaskaran(Sreenivasan), the local village goldsmith is in love with Snehalatha(Urvashi), the daughter of P.V.Panicker(Innocent), the local astrologer. They are neighbors. Snehalatha asks for a gold necklace made of 10 pavans (sovereigns) as a symbol of Bhaskaran's love. Bhaskaran makes a necklace and hands it over to Snehalatha. An angry Panicker (her father) finds this out, admonishes her and pockets the golden necklace. He reasons that it was "brotherly love" which made Bhaskaran give the necklace to his daughter.

Mohanachandra Poduval (Jayaram), is a lawyer, also working as a plumber, caterer, electrical worker, driver and chenda player at festival programs. He is engaged to Sujatha (Sukanya), a music and dance teacher, who is the daughter of Achu Marar (Oduvil Unnikrishnan). Rameshchandran (Dileep), his younger brother, is in medical school.
