Synopsis
Madhavan Nair (Jose Prakash), a lorry driver is loyal and honest to his master Keshava Panicker (Adoor Bhasi). In return, Panicker offers him a lorry, and a house in which to stay along with his family consisting of Lakshmi (Kaviyoor Ponnamma), his wife and two sons. With time, Madhavan Nair turns into a rich businessman who owns several buses, automobile workshops, and trucks. Balachandran (Lalu Alex), his elder son runs his business, while Rajendran (Mohanlal), younger son is of carefree nature, who is also in his final years in college. Rajendran fells in love with Usha (Swapna), Panicker's daughter, while Balachandran is in love with Indu (Menaka), daughter of Varma (M. S Thrippunithara), an old feudal family, who had lost all his wealth with time. With the consent of parents both Rajendran and Balachandran marry their heart throbes. But life turns into more troublesome after the marriage. Both Indu and Usha gets into petty quarrels leading to serious clashes inside the house. Things even went out of hands with both the brothers getting into physical fights in front of the parents. In such a fight between Rajendran and Balan, Madhavan Nair and Lakshmi interferes, but accidentally, the blow hits on Lakshmi's head leading to her death, shocking everyone.Actors

The movie shows how a young woman Padmini(Madhavi) who is separated from her husband gets attached to a young orphan girl Gigi(Sonia) when they meet in a hospital during their stay after a bus accident. Gigi has lost her mother in the accident and Padmini decides to take Gigi with her. Gigi is not completely mentally stable and is a special needs child. Padmini brings Gigi to Dr. Padmanabhan (Mammootty) who after initial apprehension accepts Gigi in his institute as a student by the day. Gigi gradually improves and Padmini is peaceful. Padmini's separated husband Sethu (Lalu Alex) is still trying to win her back. The viewers are shown that Padmini separated from her husband because she lost her children due to an episode of reckless motorcycle riding from husband. Padmini decides to go back to Sethu and adopt Gigi as their daughter. However Gigi's special behavior annoys Sethu and Gigi starts to feel insecure about losing her mother again. The movie goes on to show Padmini's emotional turbulence.

The film is a socio-centric story of education system that existed in the period 80's - 90's in Kerala. Divakaran, in search of a good job acquires fake certificates from Mysore TTC and becomes a teacher in a government aided lower primary school run by a corrupt manager. The thatched school is deplorable in every conditions. Children mainly comes for the food that is served. The teachers come mainly for getting the money and do not care about the kids or the facilities in the school. The corrupt manager runs the school as a business for getting grants and making money from appointments. In the climax the hero relaises his mistake from guilt which was seeded by his father and took form when the dilapidated school causes death of 3 students. In the turn of events Divakaran surrenders to police for using a fake teaching certificate. The narration is typical "Sreenivasan" style, through a cozy blanket of comedy, he explains the socioeconomic & political milieu existing in Kerala through a set of events. It is a relevant movie since contemporary incidents of the same nature are revealed through newspapers and increasing day by day even in the 21st century.
