The Lamp is a 1986 horror parody film written and produced by Warren Chaney and directed by Tom Daley. It stars Deborah Winters, James Huston, Andra St. Ivani and Scott Bankston. The film was produced by HIT Films and released by Skouras Films. The original movie from Skouras ran 104 minutes but for reasons unknown, the U.S. distributor, The Movie Store TMS, edited eighteen minutes from the film, changed it opening credits, altered the music track for an alternate title, The Outing, which was released the following year. This produced an essentially different film. The Lamp received favorable reviews in Europe and Asia however; The Outing reviews were slightly less so.
The Lamp and its altered version fared well in distribution and both were still in the marketplace well into the 21st century. Each has received somewhat of a cult following in the years since their original distribution.
Synopsis
The Lamp’s introductory scenes suggest the film is a tall tale steeped in mythology and exaggerated mayhem that parody slasher films of the 1990s. The picture opens on board a cargo ship sailing from the Middle East (Damascus) bound for the old shipping seaport of Galveston, Texas. On deck, dead sailors litter the planks. One crate that appears to have been ripped open from the inside indicates that it was bound for a Houston museum.Actors

An in-flight NASA Shuttlecraft carrying a plutonium payload is forced to crash land in an African terrorist country that is unfriendly to the United States. A young Arab woman is sleeping on her house when her bracelet falls from her ankle. A security officer is running from an unseen assailant when it corners him and kills him. Years later, a group of rednecks — including Faylene, Harley and Max — break into a house owned by an elderly woman of Arabic origins. They stumble upon a magic lamp. they killed the old Arab woman by stabbing her with an axe to death. Faylene and Max stole the old woman's things while Harley was investigating the Lamp and he releases the genie. It possesses the dead body of the old woman and while Harley looks at her she rises up and pulls Harley with the axe on her head killing him. Max was cut in half on the pool when the genie pulls him down, Fayelene who failed to help Max, runs inside the house only to be strangled to death by the genie. Police investigators send the lamp to a museum along with an unusual bracelet found at the scene. The teenage daughter of the Museum's curator - Alex, finds the bracelet, puts it on and is unable to remove it. Afterwards, the bracelet seems to exert a strange power over her.

On October 31, 1693, in Salem, Massachusetts, Thackery Binx discovers his younger sister Emily being spirited away to the cottage of the Sanderson sisters, a trio of witches. Young Tony Thompson (Jonathan Lipnicki) has recently moved to Scotland, where his family takes up residence in a small castle while his father is employed building a golf course on the estate of Lord McAshton. Since arriving in his new home Tony has experienced recurring nightmares about vampires and a mysterious comet, and is bullied by his sceptical schoolmates. One night, while dressed up as a vampire, Tony is mistaken for one by the young vampire Rudolph (Rollo Weeks), who is on the run from the ruthless vampire hunter Rookery (Jim Carter). Tony helps Rudolph find a cow to feed from, and in return Rudolph takes Tony flying. The two boys quickly become friends, and Rudolph confides to Tony that his family only drink animal blood and wish to become human. When Rudolph takes Tony to the cemetery where his family lives, they are confronted by Rudolph's parents Frederick (Richard E. Grant) and Freda (Alice Krige) and Rudolph's romantic sister Anna (Anna Popplewell) and rebellious brother Gregory (Dean Cook). Frederick doubts Tony's loyalty to his son, but when Tony helps repel an attack from Rookery Frederick begrudgingly allows Tony to help them. Frederick reveals that they are searching for a magical amulet than can be used to turn vampires into humans, but Rookery is also seeking to use the amulet against them. Meanwhile, Rookery alerts Lord McAshton to the presence of vampires in the village. Lord McAshton reveals that his family has known about the existence of vampires for generations. Elizabeth, an ancestor of Lord McAshton, was romantically involved with Rudolph's uncle Von, who was the last known holder of the amulet, and both lovers were killed by the McAshtons. Learning this, Tony, Rudolph, and Anna seek out Elizabeth's tomb, where Tony experiences a vision pointing out the location of the amulet: Tony's own bedroom. Rudolph and Tony race Rookery to the amulet while the rest of Rudolph's family, along with Tony's parents, travel to the site of the ritual the vampires hope to perform. Tony and Rudolph succeed in bringing Frederick the amulet, but the ceremony is interrupted by Rookery. The vampires are unable to stand against Rookery's crosses and lights, but Tony's parents hold him off long enough for Tony to complete the ceremony by wishing for the vampires to become human. Rudolph and his family disappear as the comet passes, leaving Tony and his parents alone. Some time later, while visiting the village market, Tony spots Rudolph and his family, now human, moving into a house in the village. At first they seem not to recognize Tony, but as he calls to them their memories return, and the two friends are reunited.

The film begins by recapping the events of the previous film, following Dr. Anton Phibes' murderous quest for vengeance against the doctors he blamed for the death of his wife, Victoria. Phibes eluded capture by placing himself in suspended animation in a sarcophagus he shares with the body of his wife, where he would lay in darkness until the moon had entered into proper alignment with the planets, which had not occurred in over two thousand years. Three years later, the conjunction occurs, and Phibes rises from his sarcophagus. Summoning his silent assistant Vulnavia (Valli Kemp, replacing Virginia North), Phibes prepares to take Victoria to Egypt; there, in a hidden tomb, flows the River of Life, promising resurrection for Victoria and eternal life for the two of them. Rising from his basement, Phibes is shocked to discover that his house has been demolished, and a safe containing a scroll of papyrus, showing the way to the River of Life, is now empty.
