The Return of Swamp Thing is a sci-fi-comedy film released in 1989, and directed by Jim Wynorski. It is based on the DC Comics (later Vertigo Comics) title Swamp Thing and is a sequel to the 1982 horror film Swamp Thing directed by Wes Craven; however, it had a lighter tone than the previous film. The film's main title montage consists of comic book covers set to Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Born on the Bayou". The film stars Dick Durock and Louis Jourdan returning from the original film as Swamp Thing and Arcane respectively, and costars Sarah Douglas and Heather Locklear.
Synopsis
After her mother's mysterious death, Abigail Arcane (Heather Locklear) travels to the Florida swamps to confront her evil stepfather Dr. Arcane (Louis Jourdan), who had been resurrected after his death in the first film. In an attempt to stave off the effects of aging, Dr. Arcane, assisted by Dr. Lana Zurrell (Sarah Douglas), combines genes from various swamp animals and human beings, creating an army of monsters known as Un-Men. Dr. Arcane tries to use his stepdaughter Abby in his genetic experiments until she is rescued by Swamp Thing (Dick Durock), a scientist previously transformed into a bog creature after a confrontation with the evil doctor, and a conscience-stricken Dr. Zurrell.Actors

In the swamps of Savannah Georgia, Dr. Alec Holland works with his sister Linda on a top-secret bio-engineering project to create a plant/animal hybrid capable of thriving in extreme environments. Government agent Alice Cable arrives just as Holland makes a major breakthrough, and begins to develop feelings for him. However, a paramilitary group led by the evil Dr. Anton Arcane, who is obsessed with immortality, kills Linda while trying to steal the formula for their own purposes. During the attack, Alice escapes and Alec is covered in chemicals, caught on fire, and runs screaming in the swamp, presumably to die. However, he returns as a monstrously mutated plant creature. As the Swamp Thing, Holland battles Arcane's forces to protect Cable, and eventually takes on Arcane himself, also mutated by the Holland formula.

Gage Dobson is a young boy dealing with various problems in his life. He is constantly bullied at school (by his fellow students AND the teachers), his mother, Cathy, (Loni Anderson) is dating the "creep" Dr. Elliot Carlisle (Andrew Stevens), with whom Gage has a mutual hatred, and the girl he adores, Andrea (Jennifer Love Hewitt), doesn't seem to know he exists. The film opens with two short sequences before the main story line begins, first a prologue, and then a mock television advertisement. In the prologue, a seemingly helpless young woman is pursued by Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, and Freddy Krueger; she is then chased into a cave and reappears a few seconds later with an item from each of the three. She then faces the camera and laughs (showing her fangs) and says, "Amateurs!" The advertisement sequence is for a "mortuary, crematory, cemetery" called "Death City" where a salesman tries selling viewers "new and used coffins", with the help of his assistant Lovely Rita.

On the planet Krypton, criminals General Zod (Terence Stamp), Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O'Halloran) are sentenced to eternal banishment inside the Phantom Zone by Jor-El (Marlon Brando) for insurrection and murder, amongst other crimes. Later, the shockwaves resulting from Krypton's explosion change the trajectory of the Phantom Zone, causing it to set on the same course as Kal-El's starship to Earth. In Drake Industries Research Lab in Kauai, Hawaii, two creatures, Supergator & Dinocroc, are being studied. However, Supergator breaks free from the lab and eats two scientists before escaping into the water. Dinocroc also breaks free by breaking the wall and crushing another scientist. It also eats two scientists and goes into the trees. Jason Drake (David Carradine) calls an elite army group to kill the creatures, but they are killed by Dinocroc. Drake then calls in Fish & Game hunter Bob Logan (Rib Hillis) who is also known as "The Cajun" to kill the two creatures. While spying on Drake's lab, Paul Beaumont (Corey Landis) meets a cop, Cassidy Swanson (Rasimas). While Drake has his private party, he meets up with a girl named Victoria Chase. Drake tells her to be with The Cajun. The Cajun meets with Victoria and they both go on a boat and down the river. Paul & Cassidy observe the huge mushrooms. As they hear Kimberly Taft asking for help, they help her in the jeep with the Dinocroc chasing after them. It's up to Paul, Cassidy, and "The Cajun" to kill the creatures before it's too late. Cassidy and her father attempt to shoot at Supergator. Cassidy's father, Charlie, shoots the Supergator's eye, presumably blinding it, and is devoured. As Supergator eats Charlie, Cassidy gets in the car and drives off. The Supergator then chases her all the way to the mill. As Supergator reaches the end of the tunnel, Bob & Paul blow it up with a C-4 so Supergator & Dinocroc can't escape. The two reptiles engage in battle, in which Dinocroc wins after knocking Supergator on its soft underbelly and attacks it. Paul then throws a bomb for the explosion. After Dinocroc kills Supergator, it spots Paul and walks towards him as Paul hides in a trough filled with water, protecting himself from the explosives. The bomb explodes, knocking back and killing Dinocroc. Paul is assumed to be killed as well, but he survives the attack and before he and Cassidy leave, the camera then turns to Dinocroc and Supergator, which are both dead as one is burning and another is bleeding. As Paul and Cassidy walk away, in the mill are babies, of either Dinocroc or Supergator.
