Add to a movie listThe Scoundrel is a 1935 drama film directed by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, and starring Noël Coward, Julie Haydon, Stanley Ridges, Rosita Moreno, and Lionel Stander. It was Coward's film debut, aside from a bit role in a silent film. It deals with supernatural redemption in a way rather similar to Ferenc Molnár's Liliom, and drew inspiration from the life of publisher Horace Liveright, who had died in September 1933.
Synopsis
Anthony Mallare (Coward) is a publisher who (it appears) wishes to ruin the life of every person he comes in contact with. Every sentence he says is like a poisoned dart aimed for the greatest damage, and delivered in cold lifeless tones. He is under no illusion regarding his own personality, remarking to his staff at large that he has found the perfect woman - one as empty as he is: "I must marry her......it would be like two empty paper bags belaboring one another". He finally manages to completely destroy the career and life of an aspiring young author (Ridges) and his girlfriend (Haydon), who curses him with the hope that he will die friendless. Shortly afterwards he is killed when his plane crashes into the ocean—Haydon's character, upon hearing of the tragedy, remarks, "I've just found out there IS a God!"Actors

In the fictional town of Willow Valley in Washington during the year 1955, teenager Susie Quinn prepares for her Winter Formal. She and her boyfriend, Johnny Angel are oblivious to the fact that an inebriated motorist would soon force their car into a waterway where they subsequently drown. Set during the 1930s, The Matrimony follows Shen Junchu(Leon Lai), a cinematographer that's deeply in love with his girlfriend Xu Manli (Fan Bingbing). Jonathan Rivers (Michael Keaton) is a successful architect and lives a peaceful life with his wife Anna (Chandra West) until her unexpected disappearance. Petit à petit, Goodman remet en questions ses croyances et se pense en danger.

Stephen and his daughter Justine run from a wireless internet ghost of Michelle, Stephen's late wife. The father and daughter stay at Stephen's cabin, away from the city. A short while after they get there, Stephen's girlfriend Marta arrives. As Stephen and Marta are about to get intimate, a laptop sitting on the table turns on, revealing continuous emails to Stephen from Michelle. Marta ends up hitting the laptop with a golf club, but while everyone is asleep Stephen picks up the laptop and sends an e-mail to Michelle, causing her to appear at the cabin. Michelle kills Marta, but Stephen and Justine escape.
