Vindhyarani (English title: Queen of the Vindhyas; Telugu: వింధ్యరాణి) is a 1948 Telugu film directed by C. Pullayya. It is a film based on a drama written by Pingali Nagendra Rao. Pushpavalli played the title role of Vindhyarani.

Synopsis

Durjaya kills his elder brother Maharajah Jayaveera of Vindhya Kingdom and occupies the throne. Shatamitra secretly takes care of the Prince Shivasri and waiting for an opportunity to take revenge. Avanti is daughter of a subordinate king. She hates men. Durjaya connivingly brings her to the Kingdom and announces her as the Queen. Shivasri and Avanti started loving each other. Shatamitra sends message to Shivasri to kill Durjaya. Thinking that his love is a hindrance to his revenge, he told Avanti to forget him and his love. Avanti plans to kill Durjaya and plans to marry Shivasri. Shivasri attacks Durjaya but pardons him. Avanti kills him and escapes. The drama continued. At the end Shivasri and Avanti get married and rules the Vindya Kingdom.

The plot is based on the story of Disciples (Sishya) of Paramanandayya, seven saints in number. They are actually the disciples of Aruna Keerti Mahamuni. Chitralekha (K.R. Vijaya) dances in the court of Lord Siva (Sobhan Babu). He gives her a Rudraksha mala to wear during the visits. Later, she visits the beautiful Earth with her companions and enjoys bathing in a pool. She finds these Sishiyas keenly looking at her and curses them to become idiots. After knowing the facts from Guruji and realizing her mistake, she pronounces the vimukti (free from curse) at the time of her marriage. The Guru, Aruna Keerti, in return curses Chitralekha that she will lose her celestial status if she comes into contact with a human.

Subbarayudu (Relangi) stays next to the house of Heroine Leela Devi (Anjali Devi). She madly likes dance and music very much. She appoints a music teacher Prem Kumar (Narayana Rao). She does not like the actions of Subbarayudu. But he likes her very much and even loves her. He takes the help of some friends and impresses that he knows music very well. She involves her teacher Prem Kumar against Subbarayudu. He takes the help of his friend (A.M.Rajah) and mimes as if singing good songs, while Rajah is singing from background. As a result heroine almost likes him. But after knowing that he is not the singer, she changes her mind. Subbarayudu acts as a suicidal act for her refusal. Heroine finally changes her mind and loves him.
