Surabhi Kamalabai (b: 1913 - d: 1977) is a Telugu drama and film actress. She has the distinction of first Telugu heroine in the Talky film Bhakta Prahlada (1931 film) directed by H. M. Reddy. She played the role of Leelavathi, the wife of Hiranyakasipa. Since then she acted about 30 films including Savitri, Patala Bhairavi (1951), Malliswari (1951), Illarikam (1959), Velugu Needalu (1961).

She belongs to the well esteemed Surabhi group of drama company, in whom drama is not only livelihood and also a profession and an art form. There were about 50 families during the 1920s to 1950s in Andhra Pradesh. They tour different places and stay for some time and give chain of programmes in the nearby towns. Her birth is really happened in a dramatic fashion. Her mother while playing the role of pregnant Leelavathi carrying Prahlada and really gave birth to Kamala on stage.

Vishwanatham (Nagayya), Ranganatham (Gummadi) and Jagannatham are childhood friends. Jaganatham marries a girl from lower caste and is cast out of the village. After the death of his wife, Jagannatham gets addicted to liquor. Vishwanatham helps him and sends money for the education of his son. Suryam (Akkineni Nageshwara Rao) is son of Jagannatham completed Medical education. Vishwanatham wants to give his daughter Vijaya (Krishna Kumari) to Suryam. But Ranganatham wants his son Chandram (Chalam) to marry Vijaya. Jagannatham dies accidentally falling from the stairs before his son returns. Vishwanatham dies of shock soon. Suryam returns to the village and started to provide medical services to the poor people suffering from Malaria. Radha (Girija) helps him as Nurse. After the death of Vishwanatham, Ranganatham creates differences between Suryam and Vijaya. How the differences get cleared with the intervention of Ramdas (Relangi) is rest of the story.

Venkat Ramaiah (SV Rangarao) and Kanaka Durga (Suryakantham) adopted Suguna (Savithri). When they have their own child Varalakshmi, Kanaka Durga's affection towards Suguna diminishes. The queen of Ujjain is keen for her daughter Indumathi (alias Indu) to marry her brother Surasena, a timid and mentally unstable person. When the gardener's son 'Thota' Ramudu beats Surasena at a concert for irritating the common people, he is summoned by the king to the court. His boldness leaves a considerable impression, but when Ramudu declares his love for Indu a day before his death sentence for meeting Indu secretly, the king is reminded of the astrologers' prediction that only a brave man can save her from a wicked sorcerer. He then challenges Ramudu to amass wealth equal to that of his in order to marry Indu, to which Ramudu agrees. He is released from prison.

King of Vidarbha becomes attracted to Mohini (Anjali Devi). He brings her to his kingdom as a second wife. She is a demon. She eats elephants and horses in the fort at night leaving bones. Knowing his intentions, Mohini sends him on an impossible mission to bring her a medicinal herb for her headache. He faces many adventures in pursuit of his goal. He learns that Mohini is in an insect. He reaches the kingdom, while his mother is sentenced to death by hanging. He kills Mohini and saves his mother and restores her dignity.

Lord Rama with Sita and Lakshman leave the palace at Ayodhya as directed by their father Dasharatha. Kaikeyi, Bharat's mother and Dashrath's second wife has asked that as a boon of her husband in order to place Bharat, Rama’s step brother on the throne. Bharata refuses to sit on the throne and goes to the forest to get Rama back. Rama reminds Bharat of his duty and declines to go back as he intends fulfilling his fourteen years of banishment in the forest. Bharat then insists on taking Rama’s Padukas (slippers) and returns to Ayodhya. He places Rama's Padukas on the throne, suggesting the rightful king and waits for Rama’s eventual return.
