The film, remake of the 2007 Telugu hit film Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule, directed by Selvaraghavan that starred Venkatesh and Trisha Krishnan, stars Dhanush, Selvaraghavan's brother, and Nayantara in lead roles, whilst Karthik Kumar, Raghuvaran, legendary Telugu film director K. Vishwanath, Karunas and Saranya Mohan play supporting roles. The music for the film was scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The title of the film is derived from a song from the 1958 Sivaji Ganesan-Padmini starrer Uthama Puthiran. It was Raghuvaran's last film before his death on 19 March 2008.
Yaaradi Nee Mohini was released on 4 April 2008, becoming highly successful at the box office, emerging as one of the highest grossing Tamil films of the year. The film also received seven nominations at the 56th Filmfare Awards South.
Synopsis
Vasu (Dhanush) is from a middle-class family. He makes several bids to obtain employment but all goes in vain due to his poor language skills and inadequate educational qualifications. All his friends settle in life, but he continues to struggle in finding employment. Vasu has two faithful friends in Cheenu (Karthik Kumar), and Ganesh (Karunaas). His father (Raghuvaran), who is a teacher, is always critical of him for being an irresponsible person. This just added to his list of woes.Actors

At the Kanyakumari beach, Geetha (Shriya Saran) looks at a lonely lying personal diary where she enjoys a poem written in it. She admires the poem by replying on the same page. While she and her friend admire the beauty of Sunrise, she accidentally loses one of her anklets (it falls in the sea). She sees a person jumping in after it and she perceives him to have died in the waters. The incident haunts her in her dream again and again and feels very guilty for it. In her college, she meets a rich, handsome boy Arjun (Sameer Dattani) who impresses her to win her love. He proposes her and threatens her to love him or else he would die by jumping from college roof top. Already feeling guilty for being cause of a person's death, not willing to let it happen again Geetha accepts his love and screams 'I love You' in front of the entire college to Arjun which was witnessed by Kutty (Dhanush).

Prabhu (Dhanush) is a happy-go-lucky middle-class family guy who spends time playing carrom in the streets with his friends Santhanam, Karunas. His father (Murali) and he keep falling into minor misunderstandings, and he indulges in a hopeless romance with a strange girl (Divya Spandana) who he meets at a bus stop. When he is caught in the act of stealing a pittance from his father for booze with his friends, Prabhu questions his father’s responsibility towards his upbringing. His angry father gives Prabhu some of his savings and tells him to do something with his life. Prabhu purchases a Bajaj Pulsar bike instead and finds a job. The bike eventually saves his life from a freak incident and gets lost, subjecting him to interminable anguish as he searches for his bike. When his family members asks him about his bike, he tells them that he has given it for dealer service.

Thirumalai (Vijay) mechanic who lives in Pudupet and has three close friends for whom he would do anything. Tirupathi (Nitin Kumar Reddy) is a brilliant man who wants to become a realtor, much to the chagrin of his father (Chandramohan), who doesn't support his goal. Eventually Tirupati wins the heart of a rich girl, Priya (Sadha), sister of a business tycoon and villainous Guru (Sayaji Shinde). He realizes his ambition in real estate. The Guru wants him to drop his sister; Tirupati in return demands money. The villain gives him a cheque from a dubious bank. However, Tirupathi gets his money as he blackmails the heroine's brother, threatening to expose some photos. The villain also plans an IT raid on Tirupathi's companies. However, that plan backfires. Then Guru tries to get his sister married to another, but the hero marries her. The story ends with Tirupathi returning all the money taken from the Guru, who finally accepts the marriage.

Saravanan's (Dhanush) parents manage to send him to Singapore after having gone through a severe financial drought thinking that he would pay off all their debts as soon as he lands in Singapore.
