Anna Lehr, née le 17 novembre 1890 à New York aux États-Unis, est une actrice américaine, du cinéma muet et de théâtre, notamment de vaudeville. Elle tourne dans un film du cinéma sonore, Les Conquérants d'un nouveau monde, en 1947, rôle pour lequel elle n'est pas créditée.

Ses parents, Frank Lehr et Émilie Freisinger sont d'origine autrichienne. Elle se marie avec l'acteur Edwin McKim puis divorce en 1920. Ils ont une fille, l'actrice américaine Ann Dvorak. Elle meurt, le 22 janvier 1974 à Santa Monica aux États-Unis.

Charles Stoddard (played by Hale) is a poor artist living with his wife and two children in Greenwich Village. Destitute after his wife dies, he is forced to sell one of his children for $1,000 to a childless rich woman. He soon comes his senses however, and backs out of the deal. From there, the story takes a number of twists and turns involving Ruth Gardner (Leslie) (the wife of Dr. Gardner who treats Stoddard's child for illness) and Ruth's parents -- whose father is also Stoddard's landlord and mother is later revealed to be Stoddard's long-lost mother from a prior marriage.

Following the "Birth of the Human Race" section of the film, two brothers in a German-American family go to war in Europe, one ("George") fighting for the United States, and the other ("Oscar") fighting for Germany. George is wounded, and at the hospital defends it from a German attack, killing Oscar in the process. George is sent home to America, where he rescues his wife from a German spy.

As described in a film magazine, Philip Noloan (Daly) is a young American who entertains pacifist views about the American entry into World War I because of his selfish desire to maintain his own comfort. His father, to arouse his duty to his country, tells him the tragic story of his ancestor the first Philip Nolan"s (Daly) treason by relating the incidents from the story The Man Without a Country. His father then tells of incidents from the American Civil War where a later ancestor, also named Philip Nolan (Daly), did all he could to wipe the stain of that treason from the family name. At the conclusion, Philip has become so thrilled by the great deeds of his family that he rises to the occasion and offers his services to his country to make the world safe for democracy.

Jack Towne vient d'hériter d'un million de dollars. Son oncle Mark lui conseille de faire attention aux étrangers. Sans tenir compte de ce conseil, Jack voit Doris qu'il a rencontrée dans un café. À l'insu de Jack, Doris, qui est à la recherche de l'argent pour payer l'hypothèque qui pèse sur la maison de sa mère, travaille pour un gang d'escrocs à la solde de l'oncle Mark pour donner une leçon à Jack. Doris piège Jack en le mettant dans une situation compromettante et ensuite le fait chanter. Elle refuse néanmoins d'aller jusqu'au bout car elle est tombée amoureuse de Jack, mais elle réalise que le gang veut réellement le faire chanter. Jack se révèle plus malin en engageant des détectives pour prendre au piège les escrocs. Il montre ainsi à son oncle qu'il peut s'occuper de ses affaires, et par la même occasion il libère Doris des griffes des escrocs.
