Eiji Okada apparaît dans plus de 80 films, majoritairement japonais, entre 1950 et 1995, année de sa mort. En France, il est surtout connu pour avoir interprété Lui, aux côtés d'Emmanuelle Riva (Elle), dans Hiroshima mon amour (1959), film franco-japonais d'Alain Resnais. Il joue aussi avec Marlon Brando dans Le Vilain Américain (1963), film américain de George Englund. A piano tuner on holiday in San Francisco, Kyoko (Yamaguchi), meets Tetsuo (Miura), a Japanese layabout on the run from his debts in Japan. Ogami is tested by five messengers, each who try to kill him. Au hasard de ses pérégrinations, Zatoïchi se retrouve à passer près de Kasama, son village natal qu'il a quitté depuis vingt ans.
