He made his directing debut in 2001, and has taken leading roles in front of the camera in the three films he has directed as of 2006.

Né à Kasugai, dans la préfecture d'Aichi, Eiji Okuda est nominé pour le titre du meilleur acteur par l'Académie des films japonais en 1990 pour son rôle dans La Mort d'un maître de thé. As a child, Ishikawa Goemon's (Yōsuke Eguchi) entire family was assassinated for political reasons. His mother (Ryo) sent Goemon away for safety minutes before he witnessed her death. Running away with his caretaker, they were attacked by bandits but he was saved by the great Nobunaga Oda (Hashinosuké Nakamura). The film begins with footage from Asahi Shimbun's special expedition to the Yamato wreckage in 1999, then to a woman, Makiko Uchida, visiting the Yamato Museum in Kure, Hiroshima on 6 April 2005. Japon, fin de la période Edo. Ihara Fusanosuke, un jeune samouraï trouve refuge dans un bordel d'un quartier de prostitution à Edo après avoir mortellement tiré son sabre lors d'une soirée arrosée. Noriyuki Kunihiro vient de purger une longue peine pour meurtres. À sa sortie, il retrouve son ami Naoto Tonigawa, du clan Myojin. Dans un bar d'escort-girls, alors qu'il célèbre cette promotion, Kuni jette son dévolu sur la jeune pianiste Asako, avec qui il va passer la nuit. Le lendemain matin, celle-ci lui demande un revolver afin de tuer Akira Fujima, l'amant de sa petite sœur. Mais elle lui cache que celui-ci est en fait son ancien amant, qu'il détient des photos compromettantes, et surtout, qu'il est le petit frère du chef du clan Sato.
