Biography
Diplômé en économie, Ettore Maria Margadonna commence sa carrière comme journaliste et critique de cinéma, collaborant à plusieurs revues, dont La Rivista della Cooperazione, Comoedia et L'Illustrazione Italiana. En 1932, il déménage brièvement à Berlin, où il s'intéresse notamment au théâtre allemand. En 1935, il retourne en Italie et à partir de 1937 se consacre totalement à l'écriture de scénarios pour le cinéma italien.Après la guerre, il devient rédacteur en chef de Avanti!. En 1959, il est administrateur délégué de Cinecittà.

Two young newlyweds from a provincial town, Wanda (Brunella Bovo) and Ivan Cavalli (Leopoldo Trieste), arrive in Rome for their honeymoon. In this Italian romantic comedy set in the beautiful Bay of Naples, Marshal Antonio Carotenuto arrives back in his home town of Sorrento to take care of the local traffic police. Vittorio De Sica plays the middle-aged marshal Antonio Carotenuto of the Carabinieri in a remote fictional Italian mountain village named Sagliena (actually the village of Castel San Pietro Romano, in Lazio). The film is the third in director Castellani's "Young Love" trilogy (the first two were Sotto il sole di Roma (1948) and È primavera...(1950)). The story concerns the romance between Carmela (Fiore) and Antonio (Musolino). The ardor is one-sided at first, but Carmela is a determined young woman, willing to scale and conquer any obstacle in pursuing her heart's desire. Pendant la dernière période de la domination des Bourbons, un groupe de carbonari, déguisés en bandits et dirigés par le comte de Sant'Elmo, arrête une diligence près d'Itri qui transporte Lucia fille d'un ministre. Les bandits prennent possession de documents importants, à partir desquels ils découvrent que le ministre de la Police, Cassano, est en possession d'un colis dont le contenu pourrait être fatal à leur organisation. De retour à Naples, le comte réussit à pénétrer la nuit dans la maison de Cassano et à prendre possession du paquet. Surpris par la police, il se réfugie dans la chambre de Lucia, fille du ministre, qui le sauve et tombe amoureux de lui. Il la reverra ensuite lors d'une fête chez le ministre. Entre-temps, les carbonari décident de prendre Lucia en otage afin d'obtenir la libération d'un camarade arrêté. Le ministre cède et libère la personne arrêtée, mais fait ensuite arrêter le comte dénoncé par un chanteur jaloux est condamné à mort, mais avec l'aide de Don Paolo et du chanteur, repenti de son geste, il peut s’enfuir et monter à bord d'une frégate pour retourner au Piémont, où Lucia l'attend.
