In Moldavia, in the year 1630, beautiful witch Asa Vajda (Barbara Steele) and her paramour Javuto (Arturo Dominici) are sentenced to death for sorcery by Asa's brother. Before being burned at the stake, Asa vows revenge and puts a curse on her brother's descendants. A metal mask with sharp spikes on the inside is placed over the witch's face and hammered into her flesh.

FIRST EPISODE Batto and his little daughter Cabiria live in a lavish estate in the shadow of Mount Etna at Catana on the island of Sicily. Cabiria, plays with dolls with her nurse Croessa. When the volcanic Etna erupts violently, Batto prays to the god Pluto for deliverance, but receives only a brief respite before his home and gardens are destroyed. While attempting to escape, servants discover a secret stairway leading underground. Taking advantage of the chaos and plundering Batto’s hidden treasure, the servants, along with Croessa and Cabiria, flee to the countryside. Batto and his wife mourn the loss of Cabiria, as they believe her to be buried beneath the rubble.

La cité grecque d'Argos est victime d'un coup d'État ourdi par le tyrannique Acrisios, assisté de son complice Galenore. Le jeune Persée, héritier légitime du trône, ignore encore ses origines : il mène la vie d'un pâtre, bientôt amoureux d'Andromède, mais Acrisios l'enlève. Persée accourt jusqu'à la cité et découvre le nom de son véritable père, Céphée, et de sa mère Danaé. Acrisios apprend que Persée est en ville et lui impose une mission impossible : tuer Méduse, la monstrueuse Gorgone. Méduse ressemble ici à une plante à tentacules dotée d'un œil unique ; elle peut animer et contrôler les hommes qu'elle a changés en statues. Persée affronte aussi un monstrueux dragon. Le héros réussit grâce à l'épée et au miroir dont il s'est muni, afin d'éviter le regard pétrifiant du monstre. De retour à Argos, Persée réclame le trône, mais Acrisios refuse : une bataille s'engage au cours de laquelle le héros triomphe du tyran.

Rosalia Derios is an unmarried woman in a small Sardinian village whose lover abandons her before the birth of their son, whom she names Anania. Realizing that she will not be able to raise the child properly, she gives full custody of Anania to her former lover. However, she entrusts the boy with a sacred amulet before he leaves. Anania grows to adulthood and retains possession of the amulet, but he is haunted by his mother’s absence and tries to locate her. He pushes aside his career prospects and cancels his plans for marriage in order to pursue his search for Rosalia. Anania's search proves successful and he locates his mother but Rosalia cannot take the shock of being reunited with her adult son and kills herself.
